Zachary Quinto has suffered some backlash this week for comments he made to Out Magazine slamming some in the gay community for 'complacency' and 'laziness' towards AIDS.

While 'thrilled' his interview has led to spirited debate, Quinto insists his comments were not meant to be 'incendiary or judgmental' or to be generalizations about the LGBTI community at large.

'AIDS has lost the edge of horror it possessed when it swept through the world in the ’80s'

Zachary Quinto thinks too many people are forgetting the painful legacy of AIDS which was a death sentence for so many gay men in the 80s and 90s.

'I think there’s a tremendous sense of complacency in the LGBT community,' the Star Trek actor tells Out Magazine which has named him Artist of the Year.

He is alarmed by the rising number of HIV infections in adolescents and thinks others should be too.

Zachary Quinto, who plays James Franco's ex-boyfriend in the indie flick Michael, is happy to see his co-star exploring gay topics in his films even if Franco is not gay himself.

'My feeling about James, in particular, is that he’s someone who is really interested in generating a dialogue,' Quinto tells HuffPost Live. 'I think it's certainly an issue in society today that warrants provocative discussion.'

NBC mini-series The Slap is billed as 'complex family drama'

Zachary Quinto, the openly gay actor who plays  Spock in the Star Trek movies, has found his latest role on television in the miniseries The Slap.

The drama unfolds over eight episodes and focuses on a massive family dispute that erupts after Quinto's character slaps someone's badly misbehaving child at a barbeque.

The incident results in a lawsuit, exposes secrets and leads to all kinds of turmoil, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Pair just completed filming Michael in which they play former lovers

The day after wrapping his three-week shoot on the film Michael, Zachary Quinto says he found his leading man James Franco to be 'inspiring.'

Quinto plays the former lover of Franco's character who went from gay magazine publisher to 'ex-gay' pastor.

'I had a great time working with James,' Quinto told The Backlot on Wednesday (27 August).

Actor posts Instagram photo of he and his lastest co-star - they play ex-boyfriends in the film Michael

Just days after Gawker insinuated that James Franco and actor Scott Haze are romantically involved, Franco joked on Instagram that he has moved on - with Zachary Quinto.

Franco posted a photo of he and Quinto on Instagram over the weekend with the caption: 'My new lover, SPOCK! zacharyquinto.'

The two are starring in the movie Michael and in it, they are both playing gay - well, ex-gay in Franco's case.

Star Trek star tries to confuse viewers as he talks about the craft of acting

Zachary Quinto has debuted in a clever new commercial for Newcastle Brown Ale that poses the question of what things would be like if Britain had won the Revolutionary War.

After taking a swig of the ale, he says: 'What's up America? Newcastle has asked me to tell you about Independence Eve, their new holiday celebrating how much better things would be if the British ruled over America.'

So why did they choose him?

He humbly explains: 'When you're as talented and amazing an actor as I am, everyone assumes you're a Brit playing an American.'

Here's a trend we quite like.

Just days after Zachary Quinto posted a shirtless selfie of himself on his Instagram account, another openly gay star has done the same.

Grammy winning singer Frank Ocean shared this pose of his chiseled self wearing nothing but a pair of snug boxer briefs in a post on his Tumblr account with the caption: 'shout out to the selfie god.'

The bad news today for Zachary Quinto is that the actor was not nominated for a Tony Award for his performance in the Broadway play The Glass Menagerie while three of his co-stars were.

The good news?

'I really am humbled by it often. I feel really grateful'

For a guy who started out playing Tori Spelling's best friend on the short-lived comedy series So NoTORIous, Zachary Quinto has done pretty well for himself.

He’s conquered television as one of the stars of Heroes then American Horror Story and landed the plum role of Mr. Spock in the reboot of the Star Trek feature film franchise.

Now the openly gay actor is making his Broadway debut in a revival of Tennessee Williams’ The Glass Menagerie which also stars two-time Tony winner Cherry Jones.

Quinto can't quite believe his good fortune.

Emmy nominated actor Jesse Tyler Ferguson married Justin Mikita yesterday (20 June) in New York City.

According to US magazine, Ferguson's representative verified the details of the ceremony with a statement.

Writer Tony Kushner, author of Angels in America, officiated the wedding.

After less than a year as one of Hollywood's most famous gay couples, Star Trek's Zachary Quinto and former Glee star Jonathan Groff have broken up.

Blogger Perez Hilton reports that 'things did not end well" for the pair but no reason for the split is given.

Donald Trump really didn't want Barack Obama to be reelected president of the United States.

So much so that the real estate mogul and television personality staged several publicity stunts indicating that he had secret birth place information about Obama - none which ever came to pass.

When early election returns had Obama trailing in the popular vote against Republican opponent Mitt Romney on Tuesday (6 November) but leading in the electoral college, Trump went on a Twitter tear.

Out actor says choice for US president is 'fundamentally clear'

Zachary Quinto is having trouble understanding why the the race for US president between Barack Obama and Mitt Romney remains so close.

'The choice in this election is so fundamentally clear,' the openly gay actor said on the Chelsea Lately show on Tuesday night (23 October). 'I feel like Mitt Romney's reptilian self is barely able to suppress itself as we get closer to this election. That debate (Monday) night was so clear for me. How anybody could spin it that Obama did anything other than clean the floor with that guy last night, I have no idea.'

Zachary Quinto will be seen on movie screens again next spring as pointy eared Mr. Spock in the next Star Trek film.

The actor, who came out publicly as a gay man last year, first starred opposite Chris Pine on the Starship Enterprise in 2009 and the result was a worldwide hit that grossed $385.7 million worldwide.

He has finished filming his part in the sequel and he expects it to surpass the first installment.

Dan Savage to anchor with guests Zachary Quinto, Chaz Bono and more

MTV and its sister network Logo are preparing an It Gets Better special to air on Feb. 21.

It will be hosted by syndicated columnist Dan Savage.

The one-hour special, which will air on both channels, will focus on the struggles of three LGBT youth.

It is an outgrowth of the It Gets Better video project launched by Savage in 2010 which has resulted more than 30,000 videos of encouragement for LGBT youth facing harassment.
