Saying they agree with his 'vision for America,' the Log Cabin Republicans on Tuesday (23 October) endorsed Mitt Romney for president even though that vision doesn't include gay marriage.

'The decision to endorse is the right one for our members, our community, and for the nation as a whole,' executive director R. Clarke Cooper said in a statement. Despite our disagreement with Governor Romney on the issue of marriage, on balance it is clear that in today's economic climate, concern for the future of our country must be the highest priority.'

Barney Frank, the first openly gay US congressman in history, has some harsh words for gay people who belong to the group Log Cabin Republicans.

'I now understand why they call themselves Log Cabin: their role model is Uncle Tom,' the famous liberal says in an interview at the Democratic National Convention where he will speak tonight (6 September).

The two major gay Republican organizations are ecstatic over the choice of Paul Ryan as Mitt Romney's running mate.

'Congressman Paul Ryan is a strong choice for vice president, and his addition to the GOP ticket will help Republican candidates up and down the ballot,' said R. Clarke Cooper, the executive director of the Log Cabin Republicans, in a press release.
