80s popstar driven from Twitter and calls in lawyers

Boy George announced he is giving Twitter a break until his 'homophobic spam issue' is resolved.

Over the last few days the 80s popstar has been subjected to a string of tweets that sound like homophobic playground bullying. '@BoyGeorge wants ya penis' said one from Tory Fox (@Cornelia_573) from Georgia in the US. '@BoyGeorge lookup ya butt,' said another from Arnetta Siren (@Charise_769) in Nebraska, US.

I’ve often heard that a powerful idea can be all that matters to inspire art and for me that couldn’t be more spot on.

I watched the news like everyone else, showing thousands of British soldiers returning home from battle, reunited with their loved ones. It was then that it struck me that all those men and women fight for the UK, yet a proportion of them who just happen to be gay cannot engage in one of our country’s most celebrated traditions; marriage.

The 3hundredand65 Project is creating a graphic novel using Twitter messages in aid of teenage cancer charity

Gay British actor, author, TV presenter and comic Stephen Fry is the latest writer to join a project which is creating a graphic novel using people's tweets.

The 3hundredand65 Project's creator, designer Dave Kirkwood, provides one illustration per day to the story using messages sent from Twitter users.

The UK's Football Association fines Nile Ranger and Manny Smith £6,000 and £1,200 for homophobic tweets

British footballers Nile Ranger and Manny Smith have been fined for homophobic tweets.

The UK's Football Association yesterday (1 March) ordered Newcastle forward Ranger and Walsall’s Smith to pay £6,000 and £1,200 after admitting charges of 'using abusive and/or insulting words' in comments posted on Twitter.

The FA also warned players as to their future conduct.

GLAAD demanding commentator be fired for tweets it views as homophobic

CNN commentator Roland Martin has been taken off the air 'for the time being' in the wake of a Twitter controversy that occurred on Super Bowl Sunday.

The Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation has been calling for Martin's firing for tweets he wrote during the Super Bowl about an H&M advertisement featuring soccer star David Beckham.

Gay Coronation Street star denies rumours that he and co-star have fallen out

Gay Coronation Street actor Antony Cotton has put to rest rumours that he and co-star Jack P Shepherd have fallen out following a pretend spat on Twitter.

The so-called argument began when Shepherd accused Cotton of bragging about his celebrity friends, tweeting: 'RT this if you think @antonycutton is cringe on twitter! Haha.'

Cotton cattily responded, calling Jack a 'little irritant', telling him 'you need the money more than me.'

An announcement from Twitter on Thursday that they will now be able to block users and tweets by country has led to fears it will allow restrictive regimes to quash movements towards freedom and obstruct the LGBT movement in the Middle East and North Africa. Previously Twitter could only block tweets and accounts globally.

Gay icon victim of death hoax that fooled Kim Kardashian among others

It has often been joked that in the aftermath of a nuclear war, only two things would survive: cockroaches and Cher.

But plenty of folks - including Kim Kardashian - believed a death rumor on Twitter Thursday night about the 65-year-old gay icon. Cher is quite active on Twitter but has not posted any tweets since Jan. 22.

Helping to propel the hoax was when Kardashian sent out this tweet to her 12.8 million followers on Twitter: 'Did I just hear Cher has passed away? Is this real? OMG.'

@LGBTfacts' discriminatory tweets countered with humour

The tables have been turned on an anti-gay Twitter account after users hijacked its hashtag #LGBTfacts.

The hashtag was created by the America-based Twitter profile @LGBTfacts, which claims to spread 'the truth about the abhorrent homosexual lifestyle.'

LGBTfacts have posted over 70 discriminatory tweets which liken gay people to Nazis, claim that gay people 'indoctrinate young children' at Disneyland and that homosexuality should be 'illegal everywhere'.
