State's governor and attorney general accused of 'playing politics with our families'

The state of South Carolina was sued Wednesday (15 October) by two LGBTI groups for continuing to block same-sex marriages from taking place there.

Lambda Legal and South Carolina Equality claim that last week's decision by the US Supreme Court’s to let stand a 4th Circuit ruling striking down Virginia’s same-sex marriage ban also applies to South Carolina because it is in the same jurisdiction.

They want the marriages to begin immediately.

Beverly Perdue: 'Writing discrimination into [state] constitution is just plain wrong' 

North Carolina voters will go to the polls on May 8 to vote on Amendment One, a ballot initiative that seeks add a ban same-sex marriages and civil unions to the North Carolina constitution.

That state's governor, Beverly Perdue, had briefly spoken out against the measure last month but in a video released this week, the elaborates on why she is against the measure.
