Event sells out and additional 200,000 viewers who watched live online

A reading of the play 8, with an all-star cast headed by Brad Pitt and George Clooney, raised approximately $2 million for the American Foundation of Equal Rights (AFER).

The reading, held at the Wilshire Ebell Theatre in Los Angeles, sold out and an additional 210,000 viewers watched live on YouTube.

(More than 277,000 people had watched the performance as of noon PST on Monday (5 March).

Chris Colfer and Kevin Bacon join George Clooney, Jane Lynch, Matt Bomer and others in benefit LA performance

Glee star Chris Colfer (pictured) has joined the all-star cast of 8, a play based on the transcripts of the trial which led to an appeals court striking down California's Proposition 8 last week.

The one-night only performance, directed by Rob Reiner, will take place at the Wilshire Ebell Theatre in Los Angeles on Saturday, March 3.

Gay parents group raises more than $400,000 at weekend awards dinner

With Modern Family stars Jesse Tyler Ferguson and Eric Stonestreet in attendance, the Family Equality Council raised more than $400,000 over the weekend at a gala dinner kicking off the group's 30th anniversary.

Ferguson, an openly gay actor who plays Mitchell on the ABC comedy, performed at the dinner while Stonestreet, who plays Cameron and is straight in real life, presented an award at the event held in the Globe Theatre at Universal Studios in Los Angeles.

George Clooney to headline one-night benefit performance of Prop. 8 play written by Dustin Lance Black

George Clooney is headed for the stage - at least for one night.

The Oscar winner will star in a benefit Los Angeles performance of 8, a play chronicling the historic trial in the federal constitutional challenge to California’s Proposition 8.

The play was written by Dustin Lance Black and is being presented by Broadway Impact and the American Foundation for Equal Rights (AFER) of which Black is a founding board member.
