Child is the fifth for O'Donnell, the first for Michelle Rounds

After a 2012 that had them both dealing with serious health issues, Rosie O'Donnell and wife Michelle Rounds have started 2013 with some good news: a newborn baby.

The couple announced via Twitter on Wednesday (9 January) that they are parents: 'we r thrilled to announce the arrival of r daughter Dakota – #withloveandthanks – AMEN.'

Dakota was born last Saturday (5 January) weighing in at 5 pounds, 5 ounces. O'Donnell's spokesperson says 'Moms and baby are happy and healthy.'

The star tweeted a photo of herself, in costume, from the Toronto set of Bomb Girls on Wednesday (7 November). The television series is about women working in factories during the Second World War.

Then came Hurricane Sandy.

The storm, which caused severe damage in areas of New York and New Jersey and caused nearly 100 deaths, damaged O'Donnell's home near the Hudson River.

The 50-year-old star tweeted that there has been damage to the dock and that her craft house had been flooded.

The actress and talk show host revealed Monday (27 August) that she and Michelle Rounds were secretly wed back in June before Rounds underwent surgery for desmoid tumors which is a rare disease that only affects three out of every million people.

'We married in private before [Michelle's] surgery, just the [two] of us,' O'Donnell writes on her blog. 'When we r both well enough will have the wedding of r dreams surrounded by those we cherish.'

Just a month after her 95th birthday,  legendary comic Phyllis Diller died on Monday (20 August) at home in Los Angeles surrounded by her family.

Diller began working as a stand-up comic in the 1950s and is credited with paving the way for the likes of Joan Rivers, Roseanne Barr and Margaret Cho, among others.

Diller had a gay following from the beginning.

'My first audience were gay people because they have a great sense of humor,' she once said. 'They love comedy and they love to laugh. How do you think they got the word gay put on them?'

Rosie O'Donnell says she wasn't looking to start a feud with Lindsay Lohan when she said on The Today Show this week that the young actress should be taking a break from Hollywood instead of starring as Elizabeth Taylor in a TV movie.

O'Donnell returned to Today on Thursday (26 April) to explain why she said Lohan, who has had several trips to rehab and jail in recent years, should lie low for awhile.
