Paris Gym in Vauxhall, which has been running for 20 years, will be shutting its doors

London's longest running and biggest gay gym Paris Gym is closing down.

The training centre, which has been running for 20 years in the heart of Vauxhall, will be closing down on 27 June at 4pm.

This is just the latest in a long run of closures in London's LGBTI scene. The Black Cap in Camden closed suddenly earlier this month and the threats to shut down the Royal Vauxhall Tavern are growing.

Writing on Facebook, gym runners Peter Gann and Phil Hathaway announced the closure. He promised all members will receive refunds and a party is being planned.

London gay bar Royal Vauxhall Tavern is at risk of closing due to its recent sale to property developers.

But celebs and stalwarts of the scene have come together to launch a campaign to help save the iconic venue.

It comes as the Black Cap in Camden, another notable London LGBTI venue, closed without notice last week.

Writer of Bafta-winning film Pride Stephen Beresford, who featured the RVT in his 2014 hit film, is calling on people to help save the bar.

In the latest in a line of closures on the London gay scene, Hackney pub the Joiners Arms will shut its doors in January 2015. Its managements tell GSN that they are seeking new premises

A well-loved and long-running London gay bar has been told that it must find itself a new home.

The management of the Joiners Arms on Hackney Road, Shoreditch, has been informed that its current lease, which expires on 15 January 2015, will not be renewed.

David Pollard, the publican who re-launched the venue as a gay bar in 1997 and has run it ever since, told GSN that a development company is planning to demolish the venue and build flats on the site.

Big Fish Little Fish is one of London’s most unique club events.

Describing itself as a ‘creative and exciting music and dance party for the post-rave generation of parents and kids’, it aims to offer all the fun of a mini-festival in the space of one afternoon. Hence the team’s tagline: ‘2-4 Hour Party People’!

All its events are aimed at both parents and their young kids to enjoy (or grandparents/uncles/aunts/carers).

Author and comedienne Cleo Rocos claims she smuggled Princess Diana into a gay bar in the 1980s.

‘When we walked in ... we felt she was obviously Princess Diana and would be discovered at any minute,’ said the author.

She described in her book The Power of Positive Drinking how she, Freddy Mercury and gay British comic Kenny Everett took the Princess of Wales to South London’s Royal Vauxhall Tavern one night.

London cabaret acts, Amy Lamé and Scottee, have responded to a world where fat is under attack, mocking Miss America-style pageants with entertainment show, Hamburger Queen.

The gay duo explained in an interview with Beige Magazine, they were ‘sick of the negative portrayal of larger people’ and decided it was ‘time to celebrate more healthy role models in chub culture’.
