Last month sadly marked the 10th anniversary of the murder of Sakia Gunn of Newark, New Jersey. And her murder is mired, at best, by myths and, at worst, malicious intent.

Depending, however, on the LGBTQ circles you run in and where you get your news, you may or may not know who she was. For many, Gunn was and still is a small blip on the gay and national news radar screen.

'To exploit our late son's name to advance an anti-equality agenda is offensive and wrong'

The parents of Tyler Clementi say it is 'offensive and wrong' for the National Organization for Marriage to refer to their son's suicide in a recent anti-gay speech and want an apology.

NOM's Jennifer Morse said in recent speech to Iowa State University students that Clementi’s death as an example of why it is 'not the best thing to let lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people be friends with other LGBT people, or be supported by the LGBT community.

Rutgers University announces the creation of a center for student wellbeing and suicide prevention named for student Tyler Clementi who killed himself in 2010 after being outed by a roommate

New Jersey’s Rutgers University will honor the memory of Tyler Clementi with a center for student welfare and suicide prevention.

Clementi killed himself in September of 2010 by jumping off the George Washington Bridge into the Hudson River after he was secretly filmed kissing another man and then outed online by roommate Dharun Ravi.

An attorney for James and Jane Clementi says the parents had filed papers shortly after their son’s death preserving their right to sue Rutgers. They also will not be bringing a civil suit against Dharun Ravi, their son's roommate who spied on his dorm room encounter with another man then discussed what he saw on the webcam with friends on Twitter.

Dharun Ravi was released from Middlesex County jail in North Brunswick, New Jersey, on Tuesday (19 June) and will not have to worry about being deported to his native India.

The 20 year old, convicted of spying on his gay roommate and another man while a student at Rutgers University, served 20 days of a 30 day sentence in the high-profile case. The roommate, Tyler Clementi, committed suicide after Ravi discussed what he saw on the webcam with friends on Twitter.

Judge Glenn Berman knows there are many who think 30 days in jail is too light a sentence for former Rutgers student Dharun Ravi who spied on his roommate's encounter with another man with a webcam then discussed it on Twitter.

The roommate, Tyler Clementi, ended up killing himself by jumping off of the George Washington Bridge.

Ravi, who began serving his sentence today (31 May), could have been sentenced to up to 10 years in prison.

Dharun Ravi's gay roommate Tyler Clementi committed suicide after being spied on with webcam

Dharun Ravi, the former Rutgers student accused of spying on his roommate Tyler Clementi, was found guilty Friday (16 March) of some charges of bias intimidation, invasion of privacy, and tampering with evidence.

Bias intimindation is a hate crime based on the fact that Clementi was gay.

Clementi committed suicide by jumping off of the George Washington Bridge in the days after he discovered that his private dorm room encounters with another man had been secretly recorded by Ravi via web cam and discussed it on Twitter with other students.

Majority of New Jersey voters want issue of same-sex marriage decided by referendum

New Jersey voters are calling for a referendum on the issue of gay marriage after the state's Senate passed a bill allowing same-sex unions.

The US state made history yesterday (13 February) when it voted 24 to 16 to pass a gay marriage bill, but a poll released today (14 February) revealed that more than half of voters wish to see the issue placed on a ballot.
