A court in Rome has approved the step-child adoption of a girl by the female partner of her biological mother

For the first time in Italian history, a court has granted permission for the adoption of a child living with a gay couple. The child is the biological daughter of one of the women, and her partner has been allowed to legally become her co-parent through adoption.

The couple have been living together in Rome since 2003, and the decision was taken by the city’s Juvenile Court. It’s believed that the child was conceived through IVF treatment abroad – where the couple also underwent a marriage ceremony.

As gay couples flock to England to adopt, Health Minister Edwin Poots claims he wants the ban as children deserve 'stability'

Gay couples in Northern Ireland could soon be joining the rest of the UK in having the right to adopt children.

But Edwin Poots, the Health Minister, is now doing everything he can to stop that from happening.

The Court of Appeal recently ruled the ban preventing gay, lesbian and unmarried couples from adopting children was unlawful.

The only way a LGB person could adopt was if they were single.

Poots has now applied to the Supreme Court for leave to appeal against the Court of Appeal’s decision that the ban is discriminatory.

Winston McKenzie, the right-wing party's culture spokesman, warns LGBT parents would raise their child to be gay

A member of the right-wing UK Independence Party claims gay adoption is 'child abuse'.

The party's culture spokesman, Winston McKenzie, called for a ban on gay and lesbian people adopting.

The Christian spoke to The Metro ahead of the Croydon North by-election on Thursday (29 November) in which the former boxer is running to become a Member of Parliament.

During the interview, he said: 'To say to a child, "I am having you adopted by two men who kiss regularly but don't worry about it" - that is abuse.
