While four in ten support same-sex marriage in the United States, they are lagging behind the UK, France and other Western countries

As the US waits at the edge of their seats for the Supreme Court to make a decision on Prop 8 and the Defense of Marriage Act, it is being revealed today most Western countries now support same-sex marriage.

If the Supreme Court was basing their opinions on the polls, they would discover only four in 10 people supported full equality for gay couples, but another 23% backed some form of legal recognition.

After a quarter of a million people protested for marriage equality over the weekend, a new poll finds 63% of people back the bill

Nearly two in three French people have said they now back gay marriage, according to a recent poll.

According to Ifop, 63% of people back President Francois Hollande’s plans to introduce marriage equality.

The poll follows a quarter of a million people who marched in favor of same-sex marriage yesterday (27 January), and before a parliamentary debate tomorrow on the bill known as ‘Marriage for All’.

YouGov poll shows France remains divided on same-sex marriage as thousands prepare to rally in streets against President Hollande's bill

A poll shows a majority of people in several European countries believe gay couples should be allowed to get married and adopt children.

However, the YouGov survey found France was divided on the issue with a slim majority against allowing gay couples to adopt.

The findings come ahead of an expected rally this weekend in France against the Socialist government’s plans to legalize same-sex marriage and adoption.

The chair of the French socialist party has called upon the government of France to include medically assisted procreation in proposed marriage equality bill

Several leading politicians from within France’s ruling socialist party have called upon the French government to include medically assisted procreation (MAP) in the country’s draft bill of same-sex marriage that is to be presented to the cabinet on 31 October.

Harlem Désir, the interim chair of the French Socialist Party (PS), said during an interview of i-tele France that artificial insemination and in vitro fertilization should be included in the draft gay marriage bill.

Defeating Nicolas Sarkozy by fewer than 52% of the vote in Sunday’s run-off election, Hollande made several promises to the public during the presidential race.

Hollande capitalised on France’s economic troubles promising solutions and Sarkozy’s unpopularity with the liberal public.
