On My Honor is setting up a boy scouting group and will allow gay youths and adults as long as they do not 'flaunt it'

An anti-gay group is being set up to rival Boy Scouts as part of the backlash over the recent decision to admit gay youths.

The splinter group made of parents and former scoutmasters, On My Honor, said the new organization will offer an outdoors-oriented character-development program for boys similar to the Boy Scouts.

They will also focus on ‘sexual purity’ and ensure boys keep to a ‘standard statement of Christian values’.

BSA has voted to allow gay youth but to continue LGBT adult ban

Although openly gay youths will be able to participate in the Boy Scouts beginning next year, LGBT adults are still banned from leadership and volunteers positions.

Except in New York City.

The Boy Scouts of America's Greater New York Councils, which represents the five boroughs of New York City, says it will continue to admit adult members as leaders and volunteers. It will also continue to push for a more inclusive policy on an national level.

But ban against LGBT leaders and volunteers reaffirmed by BSA National Council

The Boy Scouts of America will begin allowing openly gay members to be a part of the organization beginning next year.

The BSA's approximately 1,400-member National Council on Thursday (23 May) met in Grapevine, Texas and 61.4% voted to pass the new membership standards.

The new standards state that 'no youth may be denied membership in the Boy Scouts of America on the basis of sexual orientation or preference alone.'

But a ban on LGBT adult leaders and volunteers will remain in place without any further review planned.

With his long history of anti-gay comments, it's not surprise that televangelist Pat Robertson would speak out against the Boy Scouts of America allowing openly gay members and scout leaders.

But on his 700 Club television show Tuesday (5 February), Robertson did more than speak out against gays, he lumped them together with pedophiles.

Ryan Andresen is challenging Boys Scouts of America ban on gays

A California chapter of the Boy Scouts Scouts of America is challenging its national organization's ban on gay by recommending that a gay teen be awarded the rank of Eagle Scout.

Ryan Andresen, 18, was kicked out of his San Francisco-area troop after coming out last year. He had completed the requirements for Eagle status but his troop leader denied his application.

The Boy Scouts of America collected files on members they suspected of being gay among files on members they suspected of being child molesters

It has been revealed that the Boy Scouts of America (BSA) kept tabs on members they suspected of being gay alongside records of scoutmasters and other volunteers who were suspected of being child molesters.

The Boy Scouts says the files, known collectively as ‘perversion files’ were compiled to make sure pedophiles were kicked out and stayed out of Scouting.

Greg Bourke: 'It would be a very brave thing to do, a scout is supposed to be brave'

Last month, Assistant Scoutmaster Greg Bourke revealed to a Boy Scout Council in Kentucky that he is gay.

He was promptly forced to resign after five years of service because the Lincoln Heritage Council and Boy Scouts of America determined that he 'did not meet its membership requirements.'

Now Bourke is fighting to be reinstated and tells the television station WHAS: 'It would be a very brave thing to do, A scout is supposed to be brave. So I would challenge them to do that.'

Jennifer Tyrrell: 'This movement doesn’t stop because 11 anonymous men behind closed doors made a decision to keep discrimination in place'

Ousted lesbian den leader Jennifer Tyrrell showed up as Boy Scouts of America headquarters in Dallas, Texas, Wednesday (18 July) to deliver more than 300,000 petition signatures calling for an end to the organization's anti-gay policy.

Her delivery comes a day after the BSA announced that after two years  of consideration by an 11-person committee, the Scouts will continue to ban gay members.

An Eagle Scout who became a YouTube sensation is giving a 280,000 name petition to the Scouts of America, demanding they reinstate a lesbian mom ousted as a den leader.

Zach Wahls became famous when his video in support of his two gay moms went viral on YouTube, reaching over 2,500,000 views so far.

'Our mission does not include teaching young people about sex or sexual orientation'

The Boys Scouts of America on Tuesday (24 April) reaffirmed its ban on gay and lesbian leaders by refusing to meet with Jennifer Tyrrell, the Ohio mom removed as den leader of her son's scout troop because she is a lesbian.

The Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation reached out to the Boy Scouts this week with an offer to facilitate meeting between BSA and Tyrrell but the organization refused.

But she flew from Bridgeport, Ohio, to Los Angeles on Friday to appear at the GLAAD Media Awards on Saturday (21 April) where she nearly stole the show from the likes of Ellen DeGeneres, Betty White and Cher with her heartfelt speech about being ousted as a den mother by the Boy Scouts of America because she is a lesbian.

Protest planned in Ohio tonight in support of Jennifer Tyrrell

Jennifer Tyrrell found out last week that she would no longer be allowed to serve as a den mother for her son's Cup Scout troop in Bridgeport, Ohio.

It's not because she's not a good mom or a good den leader. It's because she is a lesbian.

Tonight (17 April), a peaceful protest by parents and scouts from the troop will be held outside of the local Boy Scouts of America. Tyrrell has served as a den leader for nearly a year.
