A 21-year-old faces hate crime charges after hurling anti-gay slurs and punches at a gay woman

A Seattle man is facing hate crime charges after allegedly hurling anti-gay slurs and punching a lesbian student.

Gregory Cage Jr, 21, is being charged of abusing the woman outside a restaurant on 16 November.

As Seattle PI reports, he is accused of questioning her about her gender and sexuality on the night in question.

A gunman is accused of targeting ‘bears’ he met on gay dating apps for theft and rape.

The man from Kent, an outlying suburb of Seattle, is accused of having gone on a days-long violent crime spree and is now in jail on seven felony charges, reports Seattle Pi.

The most serious allegation against Laverne Lee Maxwell, aged 32, dates from 7 April.

Howard Schultz: 'It’s a free country'

Starbucks CEO Howard Schultz told a shareholder this week to sell his shares if he didn't like the company's support of marriage equality.

The brief but powerful exchange occurred during the Seattle-based coffee giant's annual shareholders meeting.

Shareholder Tom Strobhar, whose website touts his efforts to stand up against corporate involvement in such issues as gay marriage and abortion, suggested that Starbucks' support of gay marriage is detrimental to its bottom line.

Marc Burch: 'It’s a harsh thing that I did'

Seattle Sounders defender Marc Burch isn't making any excuses.

Last fall, television cameras caught him mouthing a homophobic slur and Major League Soccer suspended him for three games.

'I knew when the suspension was coming down that it needed to be harsh, because it’s a harsh thing that I did,' Burch said this week in his first public comments about the suspension.

Headliner LeAnn Rimes was sidelined by the flu but Lily Tomlin, Pauley Perrette, Dot Jones, Dave Koz, Jai Rodriguez and Greg Louganis were among the stars on hand over the weekend for the Los Angeles kickoff of a nationwide tour of the musical It Gets Better.

The show, inspired by the It Gets Better anti-bullying campaign, features an ensemble cast of six actors - members of the Gay Mens Chorus of Los Angeles - whose real-life stories of growing up gay are woven into the production.

Jim Nabors, best known as the bungling, naive television character of Gomer Pyle throughout the 1960s, has married his longtime partner Stan Cadwallader.

Nabors, 82, had never come out publicly as a gay man but confirmed the marriage to Hawaii News Now.

The annual LGBT aquatics championships will be drenching the state of Washington in 2013

International Gay and Lesbian Aquatics (IGLA) is the organization that brings the world’s LGBT aquatics clubs together, sharing information and knowledge as well as staging an annual championships for LGBT competitors in swimming, diving, open water, synchronized swimming, and water polo.

We caught up with Jason Stone, head of the organizing committee for IGLA2013 to take a look at plans for this year’s event which will be held in the US city of Seattle.

Public officials the US are reportedly claiming to be “too busy” to marry same-sex couples or are saying that they don’t do weddings anymore to get out of performing them in states that legalized them in November

Some public officials in US states that legalized same-sex marriage in November have been refusing to marry same-sex couples but are claiming that personal bias is not the reason.

In December a county court judge in Washington state instructed colleagues that he would not be available for same-sex weddings following that state’s referendum on the issue, while two town clerks and notary-publics in Litchfield, Maine, have used a similar excuse.

A heart-warming video that shows the difficult journey a young gay citizen goes though when society doesn't treat him equally

When three artists from Seattle made a video about same-sex marriage they managed to create a story that was quite different from a standard gay campaign film.

It shows the life of one gay man from birth to death, from discovering his sexuality to finding a partner and then spending a long, happy life with him.

It’s created by three artists from Seattle, Washington, USA; musician Macklemore, his producer Ryan Lewis and film director Mary Lambert. And it’s become such a big hit on YouTube it has been seen by over 10 million people.

Yesterday (9 December), the noted writer was a guest on the MSNBC news show Up w/ Chris Hayes. The show's host and Savage had a glass of bubbly to celebrate the recent developments in the marriage equality battle.

Same-sex couples begin marrying across Washington in many public ceremonies that in which crowds celebrated and cheered the newly weds

Well over a hundred of same-sex couples celebrated their marriages in front of Seattle city hall for during the first day they could marry in Washington State, USA.

The gay marriage law came into effect on Sunday (9 December) after the state's voter-approved gay marriage law in a referendum last month.

Seattle city hall arranged a large public event with 159 couples taking part in celebrating their same-sex marriages.

Two women, aged 77 and 85, reflect on their 35 years unable to legally commit to one another

Washington has given out its first same-sex marriage licence to a lesbian couple of 35 years.

Pete-e Peterson, 85, and Jane Abbott Lighty, 77, thought they were going to die without being able to be legally married.

But at midnight on 6 December, they became the first same-sex couple to receive marriage licences in the US state of Washington.

‘It’s been a long journey,’ Petersen said. ‘We’re just blessed with the people we’ve met and the opportunities we’ve had.’

Marc Burch is also fined and must undergo sensitivity training

Major League Soccer has suspended Seattle Sounders defender Marc Burch for three games after television cameras caught him mouthing a homophobic slur during a recent game.

Burch, 28, has also been fined an undisclosed amount and been ordered to attend sensitivity training by the league which has been trying to stop racism, sexism and homophobia through a television campaign.

The suspension comes during the team's conference final against the LA Galaxy which means Burch will miss the rest of the season even if his team makes it to the championship.

It has been revealed that the Boy Scouts of America (BSA) kept tabs on members they suspected of being gay alongside records of scoutmasters and other volunteers who were suspected of being child molesters.

The Boy Scouts says the files, known collectively as ‘perversion files’ were compiled to make sure pedophiles were kicked out and stayed out of Scouting.

Seattle archbishop J. Peter Sartain has posted a video on his church's website issuing a dire warning about gay marriage in the state of Washington.

'To suddenly change the God-given and time honored understanding of marriage would be a very harmful thing for our state and for the world,' he says. 'Should marriage be redefined in our state the very foundational nature of marriage for the good and strength of human society would be harmed beyond repair.'

A pro-marriage equality advert began airing in the US last night (27 July) during the local airing of the London 2012 Olympics opening ceremony.

The advert features Republican senator Cheryl Pflug, who talks about gay couples she knows and the reason why they deserve to be able to marry.

In the video, Pflug says: ‘I know a number of gay and lesbian couples that have been together for 40 years. I saw in these couples love, commitment, a sharing of a life together: everything that makes for a good marriage.

I first met David Hermann in Reykjavik - it was the welcome drinks for IGLA 2012 (the annual championships of the International Gay and Lesbian Aquatics association). It was an informal reception in Reykjavik’s Marina Hotel but Hermann’s warm and engaging personality somehow seemed to fill the room.
