Former Secretary of State has revealed her support for same-sex marriage, fueling rumors she will run again for president in 2016

Hillary Clinton has come out for marriage equality.

On Monday (18 March), the US Democrat made the announcement in an online video released by the gay rights group Human Rights Campaign.

In the five-minute video, she says gays and lesbians are ‘full and equal citizens and deserve the rights of citizenship.’

‘That includes marriage,’ Clinton says, adding she backs same-sex marriage both ‘personally and as a matter of policy and law.’

The ad, paid for by the The Respect for Marriage Coalition, features the past words of such prominent Republicans as Bush, former US Vice President Dick Cheney, and former Secretary of State Colin Powell who have all spoken out in favor of marriage equality in the past.

Colin Powell  stands up for Defense Secretary nominee Chuck Hagel

Former Secretary of State Colin Powell is certain Chuck Hagel will support LGBT troops if he gets to lead the Defense Department.

The retired four-star general was a guest on the Sunday news program Meet the Press. When asked how the Secretary of Defense nominee would handle the repeal of Don't Ask, Don't Tell, Powell noted the policy was gone. He added Hagel would do what was required to treat gay and lesbian troops like their straight peers.

Former congressman from Massachusetts has confirmed his desire to fill John Kerry's seat on temporary basis

Barney Frank had his last day as a congressman this week but he's eyeing a return to the US capitol as a senator.

If current Massachusetts Senator John Kerry is nominated and confirmed, as is expected, to succeed Hillary Rodham Clinton as Secretary of State, Massachusetts Gov. Deval Patrick will need to appoint someone to Kerry's seat for approximately three months until a special election can be held.

Frank, the first openly gay member of the House, wants the appointment.

The daughter of former US President Bill Clinton and current Secretary of State Hillary Clinton is carving out a career for herself with NBC News and recently sat down with controversial pastor Rick Warren for a chat.

Among the topics was Warren's views against homosexuality and marriage equality. Clinton asked during an interview on NBC's Rock Center how those views square with his Christianity.

He does not rule out temporarily replacing John Kerry if Massachusetts senator is appointed Secretary of State

Barney Frank, the first openly gay congressman in US history, does not rule out temporaily replacing John Kerry as the senator from Massachusetts should Kerry be appointed secretary of state.

Kerry's current Senate term does not end until 2014 so should he vacate the office, his replacement would be chosen by Massachusetts Governor Deval Patrick. Kerry, Frank and Patrick are all Democrats.

Archbishop of Wales Doctor Barry Morgan has said the legislation to ban the Church of England and Wales from same-sex marriages has gone too far

The Church of England and the Church in Wales have expressed their ‘complete shock’ at the government’s plan to ban them from offering same-sex marriages.

In the proposed bill the UK government announced on 11 December, there will be a ‘quadruple lock’ ensuring no religious institution will be forced to marry same-sex couples.

The US Secretary of State has released a blueprint to control the AIDS epidemic within the next four years

The US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton has revealed a plan to control the AIDS epidemic in the next four years.

According to a State Department document unveiled today (29 November), Clinton says the goal of an ‘AIDs-free generation’ by starting more infected people on AIDS drugs, circumcising men in high-prevalence countries and making sure every pregnant and infected woman is treated.

Chelsea Clinton, daughter of former US President Bill Clinton and current Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, had her ads in support of gay marriage pulled by NBC News.

Buzzfeed.com reports that because Clinton works as a special correspondent for NBC, the network scuttled plans by backers of Washington state's marriage equality bill R-74 to use an ad by Clinton.

In June, L'Anecdote, a tabloid owned by local media mogul Jean-Pierre Amougou Belinga published a series of articles accusing prominent individuals of being part of a gay network.

US Secretary of State announces additional $150 million in funding International AIDS 2012 Conference

Secretary of State Hillary Clinton spoke at this week's International AIDS Conference and said the US is committed to achieving an 'AIDS-free generation.'

To help accomplish this, Clinton announced that the US is providing $150 million in additional funding that will, in part, be earmarked for putting an end to mother-to-child transmission of AIDS by 2015.

US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton appeared via video on Thursday (5 May) to accept the World LGBT Award at the World Pride gala dinner at the Langham Hotel in London.

'I want especially to acknowledge all the people who are working hard to advance human rights in their own communities and countries... making a difference everyday, often at great cost to themselves,' Clinton said.

Clinton received the award from Pride London and the Kaleidoscope trust for her work in supporting gay rights worldwide.

LGBT US flag tribute to Secretary of State Hillary Clinton on 4 July

US Secretary of State, Hillary Rodham Clinton, has been honored with a unique work of art for her gay rights work.

International gay organization Kaleidoscope Trust has given her a huge American flag with the full text of her historic speech to the United Nations, where she called for global LGBT rights, sewn into it.

The US ambassador to the United Kingdom, Louis Susman, received the flag at the American embassy today in advance of Independence Day, 4 July tomorrow.

Three French activists have had only water and no food for five days to force François Hollande to act on gay rights at UN

Three activists are on their fifth day without food in a bid to force French President François Hollande to act on gay rights in the UN.

The activists from the French committee for International Day Against Homophobia include IDAHO’s global founder, Louis-Georges Tin.

Tin says newly elected President Hollande promised him in May that he would bring a resolution to the UN, demanding the decriminalization of homosexuality worldwide.

First LGBT celebration in Laos with help from the US embassy

The small communist south-east Asian country of Laos celebrated its first LGBT Pride on Monday (25 June).

The event ‘Proud to be Us’ was organized by local activists and the US embassy in the capital, Vientiane. It featured performances exploring discrimination, gender roles and sexual health on a stage in the US embasssy’s sports field, AFP reported.

84 congressmen request immediate action from the Obama administration on 70 cases of gay, bi and trans Hondurans killed since 2009

US Congressmen have called for action on the violence suffered by the LGBT community in Honduras.

In a letter addressed to Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, over 80 US congressional Democrats expressed 'concern about the recent increase in violence' against the gay, bi and trans communities in the Central American country.

According to human rights organizations in Honduras, over 70 LGBT individuals have been murdered since the 2009 coup d'etat when the Honduran army ousted President Manuel Zelaya.

Sponsors gather more than double the required number of signatures to get repeal on November ballot

Voters in Washington state will decide in November whether or not to uphold marriage equality in their state, just nine months after it was signed into law by Gov. Christine Gregoire.

The Secretary of State's office in Washington has confirmed that Referendum 74 will be on the ballot because its sponsors have turned in 247,331 signatures,  far more than the minimum of 120,577 valid signatures required from registered Washington voters.
