'I'd like to think he's very different than me'

When Fox News personality Bill O'Reilly said last month that watching an episode of Glee featuring a transgender character might lead to some kids experimenting with their gender identity or sexuality, Grant Gustin immediately took to Twitter to dispute the notion.

The 22-year-old actor, who pays gay villain Sebastian Smythe on the show, tells Gay Star News that he quickly became aware of the show's impact on LGBT kids.

See them perform How Will I Know in preview of next week's episode

Two months after her untimely death, Whitney Houston and her music will be the focus of next week's episode of Glee titled Dance With Somebody.

FOX television on Thursday (19 April) released a preview video of one of the episode's most powerful musical numbers: How Will I Know.

It features two of the show's gay characters, Kurt (Chris Colfer) and Santana (Naya Rivera) singing background to the powerful lead vocals of Mercedes (Amber Riley) and Rachel (Lea Michele) in this slowed-down a capella version of one of Houston's early hits.

Kurt Hummel has been joined by other LGBT characters since show's debut

Even though its ratings are down from previous years, the musical-comedy series Glee has been renewed for a fourth season, the Fox network announced Monday (9 April).

The show currently averages 8.9 million viewers but its numbers have fallen seven percent compared to the previous season.

'Glee has continued its success as a genre-defying, global cultural phenomenon,' Fox entertainment president Kevin Reilly said in a statement about the renewal.

Kate McKinnon in the running to become a regular on NBC late night staple

With Kristin Wiig uncertain about whether she will be returning to Saturday Night Live next season, the show is finding some reinforcements including lesbian comedienne Kate McKinnon who makes her debut this week.

It's been more than 25 years since a lesbian has been cast on SNL. The late Danitra Vance was a regular during the 1985-86 season.

Gay X Factor winner Joe McElderry will star in the musical version of British TV soap Coronation Street

British pop star Joe McElderry will make a special guest appearance in a live musical based on the hit English TV soap Coronation Street.

The gay singer will star in Street of Dreams when it tours to Newcastle's Metro Radio Arena at the end of May.

'I'm such a huge fan of Coronation Street,' says McElderry.

'It's been a huge part of my life since I was a child, so to be a part of this amazing musical homage is really exciting.'

Darren Criss wasn't an original member of the cast of Glee but ever since joining the show in its second season, he has been one of its biggest breakout stars.

Broadway beckoned earlier this year when he took Daniel Radcliffe's place as the lead in the musical How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying and he will appear in the film Imogene with Kristin Wiig and Annette Bening.

British soap calls article from tabloid Daily Mirror 'inaccurate'

Coronation Street producers have denied the lesbian character Sophie Webster will start fancying men.

In an article in today’s British tabloid newspaper, the Daily Mirror, the character, played by Brooke Vincent, 19, who recently broken up with girlfriend Sian Powers, will start ‘turning the heads of various Street hunks’.

Senior publicity manager Alison Sinclair rubbished the article, saying it was inaccurate and offensive.

Last week's winter finale of Glee tackled the subject of gay teen suicide when a closeted football player is outed then bullied and tries to kill himself.

The character of Dave Karofsky (played by Max Adler) is a former bully himself who channeled his own self-loathing by tormenting one of the school's most openly gay students, Kurt Hummel (Chris Colfer). It is Kurt who is there for Karofsky and when he visits his former bully in the hospital, helps him imagine his future.

The gay character of Teddy Montgomery is set to return to The CW's 90210 later this season for at least one season and may stick around if the show is renewed for a fifth season next fall.

Armistead Maupin, author of the popular Tales of the City novels, is no longer keeping quiet about some of the political differences in his own family.

Maupin is 'outraged' at the anti-gay rhetoric that is coming out of the mouths of the current crop of candidates for president of the U.S. who he saus 'are using homophobia to rally their base.'

Author Armistead Maupin has told his 5,000 Facebook friends that they probably won't be seeing him pop up on the social media site very much for awhile.

He's embarked on writing the ninth book in his popular Tales of the City series.

Maupin wrote on Facebook Friday (27 January): 'Okay, here's the deal, friends. I have to stop indulging myself on Facebook and start writing the next "Tales" book. That means you'll be hearing a lot less from me for a while. This one is called THE DAYS OF ANNA MADRIGAL.'

With a one-word caption that simply said: 'Dads,' Lea Michele released the first photo of her Glee character with her on-screen dads.

The actress, who plays diva Rachel Berry on the Fox hit, sent out a picture on Thursday (19 January) of her with Brian Stokes Mitchell and Jeff Goldblum.

The actors are playing Rachel's often-discussed but never-before-seen two dads in an upcoming episode of the series which is now in its third season.

Independence Day actor gets the acting gig originally marked up for Elton John

Jeff Goldblum has been cast as Rachel Berry's gay dad in Glee.

The Independence Day actor will team up with Broadway star Brian Stokes to play the adoptive parents of the character - played by Lea Michele - and the pair will sing a duet together on a special Valentine's Day (14 February) episode, TVLine has confirmed.

Glee’s creator Ryan Murphy is reported to have originally wanted to cast Elton John as one of Rachel’s too dads but the singer said he was too busy.

Actor's TV alter-ego will have similar outburst is upcoming episode

30 Rock star Tracy Morgan came under heavy fire last June for a show in Nashville where he went into an anti-gay tirade and said he’d 'pull out a knife and stab' his son if he were gay.

That routine, made public when a gay fan in attendance detailed the offensive material in a Facebook post, landed Morgan in hot water with his bosses and the LGBT community.

Morgan apologized and did some work with the Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation.
