Activist is one of the most leading LGBTI voices in the country

A prestigious university in Bangkok has fired a transgender lecturer for 'inappropriate behavior' in the media.

Kath Khangpiboon, 28, a social work lecturer at Thammasat University, was notified of her dismissal in early March after about 10 months of teaching.

School authorities told the transgender activist that she had 'behaved inappropriately and used inappropriate language in the media, which affected her image as a university lecturer.'

Many transgender children drop out of school due to pressure to conform

The Japanese ministry of education Thursday (30 April) issued a notice to local education boards urging schools to do more for transgender students.

Some schools already allow transgender children to wear the uniform of the gender they identify as. But the notice encourages all schools to do so — from elementary level to high school — as well as letting them use the bathroom and locker room of their choice.

The document also says gay and lesbian students deserve greater accommodation.

A transgender woman who claims that her boss at Forever 21 told her that she 'worked harder as a man' before firing her, filed a lawsuit against the company on Wednesday.

According to Alexia Daskalakis, 22, her boss at the global chain's store in Brooklyn, New York, told her that she was 'disgusting' and said that 'in my eyes and the company's eyes, you're still male'.

At only 13, articulate Tom Sosnik has all the makings of a future TED speaker.

After reading the suicide note of Leelah Alcorn in December, the Californian teen decided to 'embrace his truth.'

And Sosnik came out as transgender in a powerful speech at his school.

'I am no longer Mia. I never really was,' he said.

'And now I finally stand before you in my true and authentic gender identity as Tom. I stand before you as a 13-year-old boy.'

Sosnik recalled how he struggled with his gender identity throughout sixth grade.

According to students at Windsor High School, David Olio read a 1968 poem by Allen Ginsberg which describes a sexual encounter between two men.

Planet Fitness says she violated its 'no-judgement policy'

A Planet Fitness in Michigan has canceled the membership of a woman who complained to gym-goers about a transgender woman she saw in the locker room.

Yvette Cormier, 48, said she was 'stunned and shocked' and complained to the front desk and corporate offices on Saturday 28 February.

'They told me the same thing, that he was allowed in there because that's the sex he wants to be,' she told WNEM.

Police entrap the alleged transsexuals on social media

Egyptian police Thursday (26 February) arrested seven young people for 'debauchery,' a charge routinely used to harass gay men.

The seven detainees were identified as 'transsexuals' by tabloid Al-Youm el-Saba.

Major General Magdy Moussa of the morality police said the seven 'perverts' had formed a 'network for practicing debauchery' on social media.

He said police made fake webpages to entrap them and had proof they published naked photos.

Researchers made the announcement following studies with stem cells

Scientists have claimed that same-sex parents could have children that are biologically their own within as little as two years. 

Researchers at Cambridge University and Israel’s Weizmann Institute of Science have found that it is possible to create human egg and sperm cells from the stem cells in the skin of two adults.

They claim that by using the same technique, same-sex couples could have children that are biologically theirs in as little as two years.

Transgender model Aydian Dowling has recreated Adam Levine's iconic nude photo for FTM magazine.

The magazine’s publisher, Jason Robert Ballard, said he saw similarities between Dowling's and Levine's physiques and set out to recreate the image.

'Some areas of my body used to remind me of everything I’m not. Now they represent everything I am,' Dowling said.

He is the owner of Point 5cc Clothing, an artist, motivational speaker and advocate for trans rights, and the cover model for the April edition of FTM Magazine.

As many as one in 100 people could in some way could be described as intersex, scientists have said.

Dr Claire Ainsworth, a developmental biologist, has argued advances in research mean the traditional two-sex 'male' and 'female' notion is outdated, and that chromosomes, anatomy, cells and hormones often don't all conform.

While it was once thought that one in 2000 babies are born intersex, this could be a vast underestimation.

The Los Angeles-based Williams Institute and the local Blue Diamond Society (BDS) surveyed 1,500 people from 32 of Nepal’s 75 districts, including individuals from 150 caste and ethnic groups.

A social sciences professor at a leading Malaysian university has said rape and 'environmental toxins' are among the factors that turn men transgender.

Dr Haslinda Abdullah from Universiti Putra Malaysia near Kuala Lumpur Haslinda made the comments at a forum on 'gender identity disorder,' which was held two weeks after a court scrapped a state ban on transgender Muslim women wearing female clothes.

Two women have become the first gay couple to register their marriage in Russia despite laws banning same-sex unions.

Alyona Fursova and Irina Shumilova arrived at a St Petersburg registry on Friday both wearing white wedding dresses and carried bouquets.

The Family Code of Russia states that marriage is 'a voluntary consent of a man and a woman' but the couple found a loophole in the law.

Fursova is transgender and on hormone therapy and despite looking and living as a woman, she is unable to change her gender on legal documents.

It took Geena Rocero nearly a decade to come out publicly as transgender from the time she moved to New York to become a model. But when she did, she came out to an audience of 2 million and counting in a TED talk on March 31, the International Transgender Day of Visibility.

Rocero, 30, grew up in Manila and entered and won her first beauty pageant at the age of 15. She originally intended to follow her transgender friends to Japan, but she changed her plans when she found out she could change her gender marker in California - and in doing so change her life.

Report says tourism authority promotes the country as a gay-friendly destination but LGBTI acceptance is low

The University Grants Commission (UGC) in India has officially recognized trans people, creating a separate category for them in applications for scholarships and fellowships.
