Gay actor and his partner has won an Inspiration award from the Gay, Lesbian & Straight Education Network

Gay actor Matt Bomer has spoken about growing up gay and closeted in an award acceptance speech.

Speaking at a Gay, Lesbian & Straight Education Network ceremony in Palm Springs, the actor and his partner Simon Halls were honored with the Inspiration Award.

‘When I was in high school, there was no safe haven, there was no outlet for you to speak your mind,’ Bomer said.

Gay, Lesbian & Straight Education Network to present couple with its Inspiration Award

It was at an awards ceremony in Palm Springs last February that Matt Bomer publicly thanked his longtime partner, publicist Simon Halls, and their three children for the first time.

In October, he will be accepting another award - this time with Halls, a well-known Hollywood publicist whose clients include Ridley Scott, Sam Mendes, Ang Lee, Tom Ford, Jude Law, and Annette Bening.

Over the weekend at an awards ceremony in Palm Springs, CA, the actor took a step towards being more open about his private life when he publicly thanked his longtime partner, publicist Simon Halls, and their three children.

Bomer received the New Generation Arts and Activism Award for his work in the fight against HIV/AIDS at the Steve Chase Humanitarian Awards on Saturday night.
