Supreme Court justices raise serious doubts about DOMA, could overturn law

The justices of the US Supreme Court raised major doubts today about the constitutionality of the Defense of Marriage Act during its second hearing in two days on gay marriage.

Journalists who watched the proceedings immediately began tweeting that it appears that DOMA, signed into law by President Bill Clinton in 1996, has the five votes needed to be struck down.

Mexico now includes gay couples as beneficiaries to social security benefits.

Winning 252 votes for, 80 against and 15 abstentions, in the country's House of Representatives these amendments improve the constitutional rights of gay, lesbian and bisexual Mexicans.

A California congresswoman on Thursday (26 April) introduced a bill aimed at ending a Social Security Administration policy that denies benefits to same-sex couples.

Rep. Linda Sanchez, who represents her state's 39th congressional district, was flanked at a Capitol Hill press conference by LGBT advocates from across the country including actor George Takei.
