The lesbian-themed French film Blue is the Warmest Color may have been shutout at the Oscars but it was named Foreign Language Film of the Year and LGBT Film of the Year by the Gay and Lesbian Critics Association (GALECA).

GALECA unveiled the winners of its 2013 Dorian Awards on Tuesday (21 January). The group is comprised of over 80 professional entertainment journalists across the US and Europe, including Gay Star News, who write or report for media outlets easily accessible in America.

US singer Ashanti has come under fire for mocking a fan on Twitter and accusing him of being a closet gay.

The 'Foolish' singer took to Twitter while watching a football match and asked her followers to pick a team: either the Seattle Seahawks or the San Francisco 49ers.

However, one user of the social media site decided to attack the modest success of her latest single.

The tweeter was referencing her single ‘The Woman You Love’, which only managed to reach number 97 on the Billboard charts in the US.

X Factor boyband Union J, which includes gay member Jaymi Hensley, has won a record deal with Sony despite not taking first place on this year's show.

The UK group announced at their Cardiff gig on Saturday (15 December) that they intend to release an album next year, as they hope their contract will be sorted before Christmas, reported Digital Spy.

When Don Philip faced Britney Spears on this week's season premiere on Fox's The X Factor, he was asked what had happened to him in the 12 years since he has recorded a duet with the pop star and now TV show judge.

'At the time I didn't think I was worthy,’ Philip said of when he last saw Spears.

That's the part that TV viewers saw. What they didn't see was the rest of what he said: ‘I didn't think you thought it was okay that I am gay.’
