Fans will be getting plenty more of Jim Parsons and The Big Bang Theory

Jim Parsons, who has already won three Emmys for playing Sheldon Cooper on the CBS sitcom The Big Bang Theory, will have plenty of opportunity to win more.

CBS took the unusual step today of renewing the ratings hit for three more seasons instead of the usual season-by-season approach almost all shows must endure.

The lengthy renewal assures the show of being on the air through the 2016-17 season. The show premiered in 2007.

Parsons casually came out as gay in a line that was part of a larger profile on him in The New York Times in May 2012.

Leto's nod in the supporting actor category is for his performance as a trans female dying of AIDS who teams up with an infected straight man (Matthew McConaughey) to sell alternative treatments to fellow sufferers.

Leto has already racked up several major critics awards in recent weeks.
