Ellen show rolls into Melbourne after making a splash in Sydney

Popular American talkshow host Ellen DeGeneres and her wife Portia are being treated like royalty on their Australia tour - with airline Qantas laying on personalized treatment and Victoria state premier Denis Napthine holding a black tie dinner in their honor tomorrow night.

The couple arrived in Melbourne today and were greeted by dedicated fans wearing Ellen t'shirts and displaying banners outside their hotel.

Ellen DeGeneres talk show renewed for four more years

Openly lesbian comic will continue to host her critically and commercially acclaimed daytime talk show to 2017

Openly gay comic Ellen DeGeneres’ daytime talk show was renewed for four more years, it was announced today (11 March).

After marking its 10th year on the air, the syndicated show was renewed through to the 2016-17 by NBC.

Valari Staab, NBC President, described the show as ‘the crown jewel’ of the daytime lineup.

‘In fact, “Ellen” is the top choice for women 25-54 in her time period in seven of our markets, including New York, Los Angeles and Chicago, this season,’ Staab said.

DeGeneres dedicates show to Connecticut town where shooting massacre occurred

'My heart is broken for those families and all the people of Newtown'

Ellen DeGeneres showed up to tape her daily talk show with a heavy heart on Monday (17 December) in the aftermath of the massacre at an elementary school Newtown, Connecticut, that left 20 children and six adults dead.

'We're going to do the show and it's going to be a struggle because my heart is broken for those families and for all the people of Newtown,' a subdued DeGeneres said during the show's opening. 'We're holding you in our hearts and today's show is dedicated to you.'

Much loved lesbian comic Ellen DeGeneres has spoken out about her wish to not have a baby.

In an interview with Jay Leno on the Tonight Show, the daytime television presenter dispelled the rumors which were saying her and wife Portia De Rossi were planning on having children.

The 54-year-old was asked by Leno if the reports were true, and she joked in response: ‘I am here for your sperm.’

She said: ‘I have said it so many times; we are not going to have a child.’

‘Then they say we’re just looking for the right donor.

When looking at the career of Ellen DeGeneres as a whole, it would appear she's had a charmed existance.

Her sitcom, Ellen, ran for four seasons on ABC and she won an Emmy for writing the famous episode in 1997 in which her character came out - at around the same time DeGeneres came out publicly.

Then since 2003, she has won many more Emmys for daytime's The Ellen DeGeneres Show which beings its 10th season next month.

Oprah Winfrey may be an Oscar-nominated actress, the talk show queen has taken on very few roles since she made a splash in 1985's The Color Purple.

One of the acting roles she did take on was as a therapist in a 1997 landmark episode of Ellen in which the lead character played by Ellen DeGeneres comes out as a lesbian.

Winfrey now reveals that after she appeared in the episode, which won an Emmy for its writing, the backlash quickly began.

Chandler Massey, who portrays gay teen Will Horton on the NBC soap Days of Our Lives, was among those to receive a Daytime Emmy Award nomination which were announced Wednesday (9 May) morning.

Although it has been in recent months that Will has had his most dramatic scenes - including his first kiss with another man, coming out to himself then his grandmother and best friend - the nomination is for scenes that aired last September.

Massey tells Gay Star News: 'I feel great, it was good news. It’s such an honor to be nominated and it is much appreciated.'

Ellen stands up for documentary Bully

'I think it's an important movie and I think it can change lives'

Ellen DeGeneres is speaking out against the R rating the documentary Bully has been slapped with by the Motion Picture Assn. of America - a rating that prevents anyone under the age of 17 from seeing the movie without an adult.

The film is about the epidemic of bullying in schools and got the R rating because of profanities some of the kids use in the movie.

Ellen DeGeneres turns 54 years old today and it is no surprise that she marked the day with humor.

Fellow talk show host Jimmy Kimmel guested on The Ellen DeGeneres show and paid tribute to the lesbian icon with a video he called 'the true story of Ellen's life.

' It's not clear how much DeGeneres knew about the video. She had tweeted Wednesday (24 January): 'My staff isn't looking me in the eye. They don't want to let on to my birthday surprises. Either that or I have poppy seeds in my teeth.'

The high-profile couple have finalized a deal to buy Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie's Malibu home for $12 million. This comes two months after they put their Beverly Hills mansion on the market for just under $50 million.

Bradjelina's oceanfront property overlooks the Pacific Ocean and has private beach access. It  actually consists of two separate houses and comes with a swimming pool, has a tennis court as well as lush gardens.
