Politicians from the opposition Labor and Greens parties and an openly gay candidate from the ruling Liberal party will march with Australian Marriage Equality in Melbourne’s Midsumma Pride March on Sunday

Same-sex marriage campaign Australian Marriage Equality (AME) will be joined by politicians from all stripes of politics this year when they march in Melbourne’s LGBTI pride march.

AME's contingent will bring together politicians from Labor, the Liberals and the Greens parties to show bipartisan support for the right of Australian same-sex couples to marry.

Clement Méric was attacked by a group of skinheads wearing knuckle-dusters outside a shop in Paris

A gay rights activist, aged only 18, was left brain dead after an attack by far-right skinheads in Paris.

Clement Méric, a student in Paris, was ‘violently attacked’ by a group of three men and one woman near Saint-Lazare train station last night (5 June).

An avid anti-fascist protester, he is believed to have rallied for the marriage equality bill which was passed into law last month. His savage beating has provoked horrified reactions across France.

The Australian Greens Party will move a bill which aims to ensure overseas same-sex marriages are recognized in Australia and will be screening an election TV commercial urging supporters of marriage equality to vote for the party

Australian Greens Senator Sarah Hanson-Young has promised to move a bill recognizing overseas same-sex marriages to a vote before the end of the month.

‘The Greens care about all Australians, regardless of their sexuality, and that’s why we will keep standing up for the LGBTI community until we achieve equality,’ Hanson-Young said.

‘Thousands of same-sex couples in Australia are being forced to travel overseas to wed and this government is making them leave their marriage certificates at the customs gate when they return.

Greens leader Bob Brown retires after 25 years in politics

Australia’s first openly gay MP and first gay party leader, Bob Brown announced today he was retiring from politics. He will handover the leadership of the Greens party to his deputy Christine Milne and will step down from his senate seat in June.
