National Enquirer admits it was duped by man who claimed to be playwright David Bar Katz

Playwright David Bar Katz has settled his lawsuit against the National Enquirer tabloid which ran a false story quoting him as saying he and the late Philip Seymour Hoffman were lovers.

The story also falsely quoted Bar Katz as saying he saw Hoffman freebasing cocaine the night before he was found dead in his Manhattan apartment by Bar Katz on 2 February.

Hoffman, who won the best actor Oscar for Capote, was found with a needle in his arm and bags of cocaine were found in his apartment.

Bar Katz filed papers to dismiss the libel lawsuit today.

David Bar Katz says he was not interviewed by The National Enquirer which also quotes him as saying he saw Hoffman freebasing cocaine the night before he died

Playwright David Bar Katz is suing the National Enquirer tabloid for $50 million for running a story quoting him as saying he and the late Philip Seymour Hoffman were lovers.

The story also quoted Bar Katz as saying he saw Hoffman freebasing cocaine last Saturday night. It was Bar Katz who found the actor's dead body in Hoffman's Manhattan apartment on Sunday (2 February).

Hoffman, who won the best actor Oscar for Capote, was found with a needle in his arm and bags of cocaine were found in his apartment.

John Travolta is gay and had a six-year relationship with pilot Doug Gotterba, according to the Hollywood star's former secretary.

Joan Edwards worked for Travolta from 1978 to 1994 and these fresh allegations follow accusations that the Grease actor sexually assaulted two masseurs.

'I did everything for him, including taking care of his personal and professional schedules. Of course I knew he was gay. It never bothered me,' she revealed to the National Enquirer.
