The Dalai Lama, leader of the Tibetan Buddhist faith, has told Larry King that he doesn’t have a problem with gay couples being allowed to get married and has spoken out against homophobic violence

The Dalai Lama has told veteran US talk show host Larry King that he doesn’t have a problem with same-sex couples being allowed to marry but stopped short of saying it was acceptable in Buddhism.

The Dalai Lama made the comments in an interview to be aired 10 March on Ora.tv, saying it was up to individual countries whether they legalized same-sex marriage.

‘That I think is a personal matter,’ the Dalai Lama said of the international debate over the rights of LGBTI people.

Canadian gay rights activist Raymond Taavel, 49, died early on Tuesday morning after being assaulted trying to break up a fight between two men outside Menz & Mollyz, a gay bar on Gottingen Street in Halifax, Nova Scotia.
