'I'm not gonna stand by one of my best friends and watch them be discriminated against'

With a new book out called Cyndi Lauper: A Memoir, the singer of such classic hits as Girls Just Wanna Have Fun and True Colors is in a reflective mood looking back at what has made her the woman she is today.

In addition to performing, Lauper has become one of the staunchest LGBT allies in showbiz with her Give a Damn campaign, her True Colors tours and True Colors Fund.
