Soccer executive confirms commitment to battling homophobia at gay ‘pride’ reception in Donetsk, Ukraine as country hosts Euro 2012

A UEFA chief has emphasized the organizations commitment to tackling homophobia at a gay reception hosted in the Ukraine.

He was joined by soccer fans from France, Spain, Portugal and Austria at the party hosted by British lesbian activist Claire Dimyon where he met members of the LGBT community in Donetsk.

Together they toasted gay pride and Ukrainian Constitution Day, which is on 28 June, at the party last night (26 June).

Amnesty International advises homosexuals and ethnic minorities against travelling to Ukraine

Gay football fans have been warned to keep a low profile when travelling to the Ukraine for Euro 2012.

Amnesty International has given the advice saying conditions for gay people in the Eastern European country have deteriorated.

The capital’s first ever gay pride parade was cancelled on Sunday (20 May) after fears of violence from far-right thugs.

Footage shows Svyatoslav Sheremet, head of the Gay Forum of Ukraine, being kicked and jumped on by a group of men after the event was stopped.
