The actors play lovers in upcoming flick about Liberace

Matt Damon had played a gay man in the 1999 film The Talented Mr. Ripley and pretended to be gay in a memorable 2002 episode of the NBC sitcom Will & Grace.

But he had never before taken on a gay role that required the love scenes like he shared with Michael Douglas in the upcoming HBO film Behind the Candelabra about the late Liberace and his younger lover Scott Thorson.

It's been six years since Will & Grace left the air but the NBC sitcom about a gay man and his straight female best friend became front page news again when US Vice President Joe Biden referenced it when going public with his support of gay marriage.

The show's stars, Eric McCormack and Debra Messing headlined the Trevor Live event Monday (25 June) and talked about their hopes for their children:

'I pray to God my son grows up gay,' McCormack said as the crowd at Chelsea Piers cheered.

NBC, the network that brought viewers Will & Grace, had been lagging behind fellow broadcast networks ABC and Fox in recent years when it came LGBT representation on its programs.

But that is changing with several gay characters featured on its new musical dramedy Smash which has been renewed for a second season and with the announcement this week that a sitcom centering on a gay family will make its debut in late summer or early fall.

Couple shares their feelings in new video for Human Rights Campaign

Television stars Megan Mullally and Nick Offerman have been married since 2003 and they want same-sex couples to have the same opportunity to get hitched as they did.

In a new video for the Human Rights Campaign's Americans for Marriage Equality campaign, Parks and Recreation cast member Offerman jokes: 'You know, the night Megan and I got married, she actually thought she was marrying Cedric the Entertainer.'
