Gay pop star and actor Will Young was evacuated from a Manchester theatre yesterday (26 September).

The Pop Idol winner was starring in the new touring production of Cabaret, when a fire scare forced everyone out of the northern English city theatre during the interval of the matinee performance.

Young’s co-star Ian Parsons revealed what happened on Twitter, saying: ‘Interval fire alarm at Cabaret this afternoon.

‘Outside in costumes and makeup right in front of the audience.’

UK’s pop singer, Gareth Gates, has been confirmed to headline Leeds pride on 5 August.

The 27-year-old who finished second behind openly gay singer Will Young on UK’s Pop Idol in 2002, will be returning to his home city this summer to show support for gay pride.

The Jealousy hitmaker went in a more dance music influenced direction for his recent Echoes album, but is planning to add a little of a different sound onto his next disc.

He told DigitalSpy.co.uk: ‘I want to start writing again. I actually met up with [band] Kish Mauve the other day and we got really excited about writing a record.

‘Maybe it'll be a bit more soul-ey next time. I wouldn't mind going a bit more soul.’

Will Young doesn't think Rihanna is a good role model for women in music.

The Jealousy hitmaker admitted although the Bajan singer - whose controversial video to hit track S&M was banned in 11 countries - is a 'brilliant pop star, he doesn't think her lyrics are 'empowering' for young girls.

He said: 'I don't think Rihanna is a massively great role model for women, her lyrics aren't empowering.

Will Young thinks he will be a ‘strict’ father.

The Come On singer - who is openly gay - loves children but can't tolerate them being unruly around him.

He said: ‘I hate noisy kids. I'd be quite a strict dad I think. If we were noisy we were told to shut up. I love kids, don't love screaming kids. If my nephew and niece start screaming, it's bad. Their screams go straight through you.’

Will Young is trying to improve his household skills so a future boyfriend doesn’t have to look after him.

The openly gay singer-songwriter and actor, who is currently single, came to fame after winning the first series of British TV talent contest Pop Idol.

Young said: ‘I'm not domesticated at all but I want to be. I'm embracing that side of things. I'm too independent to have a boyfriend do it for me. I have to be in control of everything.
