Threatened with federal lawsuit, district has agreed to change its policy to protect gender expression

Jeydon Loredo will appear in his La Feria High School yearbook photo wearing a tuxedo.

But it took the threat of a federal lawsuit and an online petition drive to get the Texas school to reverse its decision that had banned the transgender male student from dressing like the other male students in his senior portrait.

Attorneys from the Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC) met with attorneys from the La Feria Independent School District on Friday (15 November) to work out an agreement that avoids legal action.

Officials at La Feria High School in Texas are trying to stop transgender male student Jeydon Loredo from wearing a tuxedo for his senior portrait in the yearbook.

Other boys at the school wear tuxedos for the photos.

The Human Rights Campaign, the largest LGBT organization in the US, says the school is violating its own policy and federal law trying the block the student from dressing as a male.

Pro-gay article outrages small Tennessee community, with a school board member calling for sacking and police investigation

A Tennessee high school journalism teacher has outraged the community after publishing a pro-gay article of a graduating student in the yearbook.

The article called ‘It’s OK to be Gay’, written by an anonymous student staff writer of Lenoir City High School, profiles the experiences of American gay student Zac Mitchell.
