The passing of Nelson Mandela saw mourning around the world – LGBTI activists across the globe, myself included, were among the first to give thanks for his unwavering support on behalf of our civil rights.

During his time as president, Mandela, oftentimes affectionately referred to by his Xhosa clan name ‘Madiba’, or as ‘Tata’ (father) – modeled for the world what an LGBTI-inclusive democracy entailed.

Baltimore's Morgan State University chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi now under investigation for alleged discrimination against Brian Stewart

It seems Brian Stewart gets more respect at The White House than he did from a fraternity he tried to join.

A gay student at Morgan State University in Baltimore claims he was rejected as a member of the Kappa Alpha Psi fraternity because of his sexuality.

Brian Stewart, 20, has been an intern at The White House and chose this particular fraternity because his pastor had been a mentor.

Emerson College's Phi Alpha Tau launch online campaign for Donnie Collins

Donnie Collins, an Emerson College sophomore pledging the Phi Alpha Tau fraternity, is finding out a lot about the meaning of brotherhood.

Collins is a transgender male whose health insurance does not cover his female-to-male top surgery which involves the removal of the breasts. He has paid for his hormone treatment himself.

An advert by a Catholic group has gone viral on YouTube because of its bizarre claims about the effects of contraception

Birth control turns men gay, fish transsexual and women into sluts, are among the bizarre claims by a group of nuns in Ohio.

The viral video by the Come Unity in Truth group claims contraception is responsible for far more 'evils' than just preventing an unwanted pregnancy.

The voiceover points to an experiment conducted on monkeys in the 1970s which reportedly proved birth control can turn men gay.

Florida Family Association calls wedding of X-Men characters Northstar and Kyle 'immoral social propaganda'

Don't expect The Florida Family Association to send a wedding gift to newlyweds Northstar and Kyle whose wedding was featured in Astonishing X-Men #51 published last month.

The group blasts Marvel Comics and parent company The Walt Disney Company for the June issue of the comic book and asks its members to send emails urging Disney, Marvel and comic retailers to pull the issue from the stands.

Ceremony coincides with X-Men character Northstar's wedding to fiancee Kyle

Midtown Comics Downtown in New York City opened a little late on Tuesday (20 June) but for a very good reason: inside the store, two gay comic book fans were getting married.

The ceremony of Scott Everhart and Jason Welker was timed to coincide with the release of Astonishing X-Men #51 which features the highly anticipated wedding of comic characters Northstar and his partner Kyle.

The couple exchanged their vows under a banner of Northstar and Kyle doing the same.

MSPs pledge support for Marvel Comics' gay marriage issue as government prepares to make a decision on equal marriage law

The Scottish Parliament is backing the wedding of two gay X-Men characters.

Scottish Labour Party MSP Mary Fee lodged a motion, supported by eight of her colleagues, which states that the parliament welcomes the same-sex marriage of Northstar and Kyle in Marvel Comics’ May issue of the Astonishing X-Men series.

The motion also says that the parliament ‘agrees that same-sex marriage should not be restricted to the world of literature and fantasy’.

Issue of Astonishing X-Men #51 with proposal goes on sale Wednesday

The May issue of Astonishing X-Men #51, in which X-Man Northstar will propose to his boyfriend, Kyle, goes on sale Wednesday (23 May).

The storyline calls for the pair to be married in the following issue of the Marvel Comics series. Kyle does not have any superpowers unlike Northstar who can move and fly at supersonic speeds.

'The Marvel Universe has always reflected the world outside your window, so we strive to make sure our characters, relationships and stories are grounded in that reality,' Marvel editor Axel Alonso said in a statement.

Northstar will marry his boyfriend in issue that ships June 20

Following in the footsteps of a gay wedding in a mega-selling issue of Life With Archie, Marvel Comics confirmed this week that X-Man Northstar will marry his boyfriend, Kyle, in the June issue of Astonishing X-Men #51.

Northstar is a former mutant member of Alpha Flight and was the first character in the X-Men franchise to ever come out as gay. Northstar gains superhuman powers through his mutation and he uses them for the betterment of society.
