Stonewall boss Ben Summerskill and Stop Hate UK say 42 months jail is not enough for Jordan Sheard who set light to gay teen Steven Simpson on his 18th birthday

The Attorney General is reviewing the sentence of a man who was given just three-and-a-half years jail for burning a gay teenager to death, Gay Star News has learned.

Steven Simpson, who had Asperger’s syndrome, a speech impairment and epilepsy was celebrating his 18th birthday when the incident happened in the early hours of 23 June last year.

A 20-year-old British man was jailed for 42 months after pleading guilty to manslaughter

A British man who killed a gay teen by setting him on fire during his 18th birthday will be jailed for three and a half years.

Steven Simpson, who had Asperger’s syndrome, a speech impairment and epilepsy, was covered in self-tanning oil and set alight in the early hours of 23 June last year.

Jordan Sheard, 20, was sentenced at Sheffield Crown Court after pleading guilty to manslaughter.

A judge heard how as Simpson became more drunk, homophobic insults were scrawled on his arm and stomach, told to strip to his boxers and encouraged to dance around.

Richard Blanco is first gay person and first Latino to be inaugural poet

Richard Blanco followed on the footsteps of such celebrated American poets as Robert Frost and Maya Angelou on Monday (21 January) when he delivered a poem at the second inauguration of US President Barack Obama.

Blanco is a 44-year-old man from Maine,  is the first gay man and first Latino chosen as inaugural poet.

It’s an obvious statement, but traveling with a hangover is not pleasant.

Through some bad planning I’d had a late night at the Christmas party of my water polo team, so it was a huge struggle to drag myself to London’s St Pancras station for the early train to Belgium.

Thankfully Eurostar journeys are usually fairly painless and in a couple of hours I was waiting impatiently for a taxi outside the train station at Bruges, the icy drizzle blowing the last of the vodka from my system.

Top UK gay business leader Lord John Browne says there are no LGBT bosses at very top of FTSE 100 or S&P 500 firms in UK and US and that must change

None of Britain or America’s leading companies have an openly gay CEO and that should change, leading out industrialist Lord John Browne has said.

Lord Browne, former CEO of oil giant BP, was speaking at Out on the Street, a summit on global LGBT workplace equality, in London today (13 November).

And he challenged a panel of colleagues from leading firms as well as an audience of top finance institutions to address the issue.

Saudi religious police arrested five gay men during a raid on a health club in the Kingdom's capital, Riyadh

Saudi Arabia’s notorious religious police shut a health club after seizing five local gays in a raid triggered by a tip-off about the club’s ‘suspicious activities'.

Members of the religious police, known in the oil rich kingdom as the Commission for the Promotion of Virtue and Prevention of Vice, raided on Saturday (20 October) a health club located in the north of Riyadh, the country’s capital, and arrested the five gay men.

Teenager's burned body found in field near her home in northern state

The body of a 16-year-old girl described in local media as a 'tomboi' was found in a palm oil field in a town in the state of Kelantan in north-east Malaysia.

Fridae reports that Nor Ain Shafnie Mohd had been missing for three weeks and her body was found badly burned about 500 metres from her house.
