Britain's leading Christian organization has finally agreed conversion therapy does not work and can be dangerous

‘Gay cure’ therapy will be banned for members of the leading body of Christian counselors in the UK.

The Association of Christian Counsellors (ACC) said it has instructed members to stop the practice ‘in the interests of public safety’.

The treatment, widely discredited and known to be deeply damaging to a person’s health, was finally agreed by the ACC to not work.

A bill seeking to ban gay-to-straight conversion therapy by requiring medical practitioners to register with the government for monitoring has been published in Parliament

While the UK Parliament recognizes being LGBTI is not a disease, and sexual orientation conversion therapy is ‘both ineffective and potentially extremely harmful,’ conversion therapy is rampant in the UK.

So Labour MP for Swansea West Geraint Davies published today (12 December) a bill that if made law would ban psychotherapists from offering gay-to-straight conversion therapy.

The UK government has decided to crackdown on ‘gay cure’ therapy but has ruled out legislation for now.

The House of Commons has met to discuss a ban on conversion therapy.

Described as ‘voodoo treatments’, the majority of the members of parliament (MPs) at the Westminster Hall meeting backed a ban.

Sandra Osbourne, the Labour MP for Ayr, Carrick and Cunmock who began the call, said: ‘Conversion therapy is a very real problem in this country.

‘This isn’t a simplistic debate about the freedom to choose.

As millions of Brits have had 'treatment' from unqualified therapists who may prescribe 'gay cures', several politicians are calling an end to quack treatment

A British member of parliament will introduce a bill to ban ‘gay cure’ therapists this week.

Geraint Davies, a Labour MP for Swansea West, has called for nationwide regulation of mental health therapists – ensuring any gay teen or adult is not faced with quack treatment.

‘Anyone can set themselves up as a counsellor or psychotherapist without training or experience with no recourse for the patient if something goes wrong,’ he said.

'I was so consumed by the voices ... of my parents telling me I need to change'

Gay singer Steve Grand, unknown a week ago but now an online sensation, is opening up about his painful past which included years of therapy trying to turn himself straight.

The 22-year-old's song, All-American Boy, had reached nearly 646,500 views as of Tuesday afternoon. It tells the painful story of a gay man's unrequited love for a straight male friend.

But Grand tells ABC's Good Morning America even more painful was trying to accept himself and be accepted by his parents.

A conservative Democrat has joined forces with Republicans in the US state of Tennessee to put forward a bill which would allow university students training to be counselors to deny care to people who are LGBT or having sex outside of marriage

University students training to be counselors could be allowed to legally refuse care to people in same-sex relationships and heterosexuals who have sex before marriage under a proposed law in Tennessee.

The law was drafted by the Family Action Council of Tennessee which passed it to Republican state Senator Joey Hensley and Democrat state Representative John J. DeBerry Jr (pictured) who agreed to sponsor it in both houses of the Tennessee legislature.

A Christian group was given a committee room in Britain’s Houses of Parliament yesterday (31 January) to debate therapy to ‘cure’ gay people.

The event, which took place in Committee Room 11 of the Houses of Parliament yesterday was set up and promoted by Core Issues, a Christian group that has previously written disparagingly on LGBT issues.

A group of gay men in the US are suing therapists for fraud, slamming their methods to 'cure' them of homosexuality as a 'sham'.

The lawsuit filed in New Jersey yesterday (28 November) claims Jews Offering New Alternatives for Healing (JONAH) lied about being able to turn gay people straight.

JONAH claimed to be able to rid the four men of their homosexual desires using scientifically proven methods which, according to the plaintiffs, included stripping naked and beating effigies of their mothers.

Pacific Justice Institute wants courts to halt law before it takes effect in 2013

Just days after California Governor Jerry Brown signed a bill into law that bans so-called 'conversation' therapy that attempts to turn gay kids straight, a conservative group is suing to keep the law from going into effect.

The Pacific Justice Institute filed a lawsuit late Monday (1 October) in federal court in Sacramento claiming that the law is a violation of free speech rights of therapists and of the privacy rights of patients and their parents.
