UK singer gives a soulful performance of Lay Me Down

Sam Smith won two gongs at Wednesday (25 February) night's BRIT Awards in London, just weeks after winning four Grammys.

The UK singer picked up Best Breakthrough Act and the Global Success Award for most international sales. He was nominated in five categories.

But on the red carpet, the Stay With Me singer admitted he was looking for success in another area of his life.

'I’d like a boyfriend if I'm honest. That would be nice,' he told the BBC.

Neil Patrick Harris has been hitting the gym since ending his run as a gaunt transgender punk rock singer in Broadway's Hedwig and the Angry Inch.

On Sunday night's Academy Awards, this year's host stripped down to his underwear and displayed an impressively muscular physique.

So what was he doing in his skivvies?

Harris re-enacted one of the more memorable scenes from Best Picture nominee Birdman in which Michael Keaton's actor character gets locked out of a theater mid-play and must walk through New York's Times Square in his underwear to re-enter.

Jamaican singer Queen Ifrica says reggae singers use homophobic lyrics to get cheers and applause from audiences

A Jamaican reggae singer has defended her use of anti-gay lyrics in her music, saying she uses them to get applause and cheers from the audience.

Ventrice Morgan, who goes by the stage name of Queen Ifrica, says such lyrics are only about getting a reaction from the crowd and not about inciting violence or hatred.

‘A lot of these artists who were using homophobic lyrics, were never about inciting violence,’ she says.

‘It was about getting a forward – an applause – from the crowd.'

Darren Criss will next play the title character in the Broadway hit Hedwig and the Angry Inch.

It was announced today that the Glee star will replace John Cameron Mitchell beginning 29 April for a limited 12-week run at the Belasco Theatre in New York City.

Criss will be the latest in a growing list of high-profile performers to tackle the role of a transgender punk rock singer who is the victim of a botched sex-change operation.

Oh Louis Tomlinson from One Direction, what mess have you got yourself into now?

The singer from the British boyband caused a kerfuffle over the weekend after appearing in a Vine video where it appears he can be heard saying: 'I'm gay, it's pretty unfortunate'.

The fan, who captured the video, also captured other clips of Tomlinson with other members of the band in Australia.

The upload was captioned: 'JUST MET LOUIS AND LIAM DRUNK WTF'.

Stone Cold Sober singer helps give a gay couple a Valentine's Day they'll always remember

British singer Paloma Faith has helped a gay fan propose to his partner of 13 years.

James Richards, 35, from Swansea contacted his favorite pop star to ask if he would help him pop the question to the love of his life Chris Howells.

Howells was on a train home when he received the message, and immediately said yes.

In the black-and-white video, Faith leans into the camera and says: 'Hi Chris, it's Paloma Faith. I've got a little secret for you!

The out lesbian is survived by her partner of 33 years

Lesley Gore, the 1960s pop star who later came out publicly as a lesbian, died on Monday of lung cancer. Her biggest hits included It's My Party, You Don't Own Me and Sunshine, Lollipops and Rainbows.

Gore died New York University Langone Medical Center in New York, according to the Associated Press.

'She was a wonderful human being - caring, giving, a great feminist, great woman, great human being, great humanitarian,' Lois Sasson, Gore’s partner of 33 years, told the AP.

Netizen posed as an ex-girlfriend and accused the singer of sexual assault

A South Korean man has been arrested for spreading lesbian rumors about a member of girl group Lovelyz.

In November, the man, only identified as A, posed as an ex-girlfriend of Seo Ji-soo on internet forums and accused the singer of sexual assault.

Seoul police tracked the man down using his IP address and charged him with spreading malicious rumors. The arrest was made last month but was only reported on Wednesday (11 February).

Steve Strange, who reached the peak of his fame in the 1980s as lead singer of the pop band Visage, has died of a heart attack.

He was 55.

Strange's agent Pete Bassett tells BBC News he was aware the singer had 'certain health problems but nothing we knew was life threatening.'

Well-known event promoter was lured into the attack by the man he loved

A well-known event promoter was brutally beaten by a mob in Ghana over the weekend for being gay.

Kinto Rothmans was lured into the ambush by a man named Salim, whom he had told he loved.

During the attack, Rothmans was forced to confess his desire to 'chop' (have sex with) Salim in a video, which has since gone viral in the west African country along with a photo of him dripping in blood.

Rothmans is the CEO of Get Familiar GH, which organizes the popular Friday Friends club night in the capital Accra.

'I keep spontaneously crying - I started crying in the shower this morning'

Sam Smith brought his four newly-won Grammys with him when he paid a visit to The Ellen DeGeneres Show in an episode that aired Tuesday (10 February).

On the show, taped on Monday, Smith shared that he was operating on very little sleep after getting home at 6:30 am after partying until the wee hours.

But before heading to a private party his record label threw, the British singer headed to an In & Out Burger in Los Angeles with his family to celebrate his wins for Record of the Year, Song of the Year, Best New Artist and Best Pop Vocal Album.

Is up for a total of six awards

Sam Smith did not have to wait long to become a Grammy winner on Sunday (8 February).

In the first award presented during the live telecast, Smith won the Grammy for Best New Artist.

Smith won over fellow nominees Iggy Azalea, Bastille, Brandy Clarke and Haim.

It is one of six categories Smith is nominated for including Record of the Year and Album of the Year.

Prior to the televised ceremony in Los Angeles, Smith chatted with Entertainment Tonight and described the event as 'a celebration of the last year and a half.'

Sam Smith took home both the Record of the Year and Song of the Year prizes for his song Stay With Me at the Grammy Awards on Sunday (8 February).

The openly gay singer also won for Best Pop Vocal Album for In the Lonely Hour and was voted Best New Artist. Overall, he won in four of the six categories he was nominated in - more than any other artist this year.

A Russian lawmaker has threatened to arrest UK singer Robbie Williams for saying he is '49% gay'.

The Angels singer is set to perform in St Petersburg in April, but there is definitely one person who will not be entertained.

Vitaly Milonov, the politician behind Russia's 'gay propaganda' law, has claimed Williams must be held 'accountable' for his actions.

'The concert organizers must talk to the singer and tell him he must not make a statement supporting homosexuals,' the lawmaker told Russian News Service.

Sam Smith has premiered his new music video which shows him getting married in a church.

The latest single to be lifted from his debut album In the Lonely Hour is called Lay Me Down.

Directed by Ryan Hope, the video’s events are close to both the director’s and Smith’s hearts, according to the singer. 

His statement, posted with the video, read 'With this video myself and Ryan Hope the director have decided to make a statement and showcase something we passionately believe in.

Los Angeles Confidential magazine had planned the first major entertainment industry party at the Beverly Hills Hotel in honor of its cover star.

However, a representative for the R&B singer said he would no longer be attending.

Singer criticized for not exactly beautiful language

James Blunt is being accused of homophobia after making a joke about picking up the soap in the shower around Conservative MPs.

The 'You're Beautiful' singer made the old 'joke' about this week's New Statesman cover featuring Blunt among the Eton crowd of politicians such as David Cameron and Boris Johnson and actors like Benedict Cumberbatch.

The lead story is: 'The class ceiling - From pop to politics, does it pay to be posh?'

Blunt tweeted the cover, saying: 'I won't be picking up the soap when this party moves to the showers.'

Tom Petty says he never considered suing fellow singer Sam Smith over the striking similarities of his song I Won't Back Down to Smith's hit Stay With Me.

Publishers for the Petty/Lynne song recently contacted Smith's team about the similarities in the melodies of the choruses and a settlement was quickly reached.
