Emmy nominee wants to send strong message against bullying 'so that young people don't have to go through what I did'

Next Thursday (16 October), Laverne Cox will help New York City's Empire State Building go purple.

The Emmy nominated star of Orange is the New Black will be on hand to light the iconic landmark which has been featured in such films as Sleepless in Seattle and An Affair to Remember.

The purple is part of Spirit Day which is held each year during National Bullying Prevention month.

Schools and communities are urged to wear purple to show their support and to raise awareness about people who have been bullied in the past and who are still being bullied.

Kristin Chenoweth makes no attempt to downplay her Christianity or her support of gay marriage in a video released today by the Human Rights Campaign.

The Emmy and Tony award winning actress describes herself as 'an American and marriage equality supporter - yup, I'm also a Christian.'

She then lists other things about herself that reflect 'how I was made' including being 'a shorty,' 'an Okie,' a lover of gospel, and a dog lover.

Alec Baldwin has penned a blistering magazine piece in which he says goodbye to public life asd laments being thought of as homophobic following a run-in with a photographer last November.

Despite the incident being captured by a TMZ camera, Baldwin denies calling the photographer a 'cocksucking fag.'

In a New York Magazine piece scheduled to be published Monday and posted early online by Gawker, Baldwin tries to explain himself - exhaustively.

Behind the Candelabra also wins - See full list of winners

Michael Douglas won the Golden Globe Award on Sunday night for his portrayal of the late gay entertainer Liberace in the TV movie Behind the Candelabra.

It was the fourth career Globe for Douglas who also won the Emmy for Candelabra beating out co-star Matt Damon both times.

In his speech before a star-studded crowd at the ballroom of the Beverly Hilton Hotel, Douglas called Damon 'the bravest, most talented actor I've ever worked with. The only reason (he's) not here is I had more sequins.'

The comedy icon and the writer got hitched on New Year's Eve

No one could accuse Lily Tomlin and Jane Wagner of rushing into anything.

The Emmy winning couple, already together 42 years, got married on New Year's Eve.

Tomlin, 75, is a comedy icon and star of stage and screen. Wagner, 78, is the author of The Search for Signs of Intelligent Life in the Universe, The Incredible Shrinking Woman and other Tomlin vehicles.

'I just loved her - I named my dog after her'

For Jane Lynch, it was all about Olivia Newton-John.

The Emmy-winning Glee star appeared on the talk show Conan this week to promote the fifth season premiere of her hit show and ended up sharing with the audience her long ago crush on the star of Grease.

'She was it for me,' Lynch said. 'I just loved her - I named my dog after her. My dog’s name is Olivia. I had a big lesbo crush on her, and I named my dog after her.'

She got to do more than that.

Jane Lynch knows that her divorce from Dr. Lara Embry is going to cost her a pretty penny.

But she's not complaining.

'It’s just money,' the Glee star tells Access Hollywood.

'[California] is a half and half state, as well as it should be, so that’s fine,' says Lynch whose three-year marriage took place during the Emmy winner's 'highest earning years' as a performer.

The Young and the Restless actor says no plans to get married right now

Greg Rikaart of the CBS soap The Young and the Restless added yet another way for an actor to come out as gay: tweet a photo of yourself with your boyfriend in celebration of the Supreme Court marriage equality victories.

Sometime after midnight on Thursday, the Emmy winning actor posted the photo with this message: 'Not getting married anytime soon, but celebrating #equality tonight nonetheless.'

Rikaart, 36, has played the role of Kevin Fisher on the CBS soap The Young and the Restless since 2003.

The gay icon is the latest to join NOH8, a photo campaign that raises awareness of California’s same-sex marriage ban 

The legendary Liza Minnelli has thrown her support behind marriage equality in California.

The Emmy, Oscar, Tony and Grammy award-winning Hollywood legend unveiled her portrait for the NOH8 campaign.

The photo-series created by Adam Bouska promotes gender and marriage equality through portraits of people with their mouths taped shut and NOH8 painted on their faces.

In addition to her portrait, Minnelli had a loving message for the LGBT community: ‘Here’s what I believe … no shame, no blame, no guilt.'

Modern Family star engaged to Justin Mikita says wedding planner taking care of everything

Yes, Jesse Tyler Ferguson is getting married.

And yes, he's a gay man.

But that doesn't mean the Emmy-nominated Modern Family star is obsessing over every detail when it comes to his wedding to lawyer Justin Mikita.

'No Groomzilla here,' Ferguson, 37, tells People.com with a laugh. 'We have a really great wedding planner who is managing everything. It's been very exciting. I'm very picky about things, and everything is coming together nicely.'

On How I Met Your Mother, Neil Patrick Harris dreams of seducing women. But on his new web series, he dreams in puppet.

The Emmy winning actor debuted a new web series this week called Neil's Puppet Dreams with six more episodes to follow - one per week. Harris interacts with Jim Henson puppets in a dream state in the quirky series on Chris Hardwick's Nerdist channel.

Harris was part of a previous success that originated on the web: Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog. He was eager to experience that kind of creative freedom again.

Modern Family star Jesse Tyler Ferguson announced his engagement to lawyer Justin Mikita Wednesday (19 September) via YouTube in a video that also announced the couple's new non-profit organization benefiting LGBT equality.

'It's true, I popped the big Q,' the Emmy-nominated actor said.

Mikita, sitting next to Ferguson on a sofa excitedly told viewers: 'I said yes!'

Steve Levitan: 'We'll offer her the role of officiant at Mitch & Cam's wedding. As soon as it's legal'

Ann Romney, wife of Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney, says her favorite show is the ABC comedy Modern Family which features the gay couple of Cam and Mitch.

The couple are raising an adopted daughter in the Emmy-winning show that revolves around Cam and Mitch as well as the families of Mitch's father and sister.

The show's creator and executive producer Steve Levitan took to Twitter to respond to the potential First Lady's television taste which would seem to fly in the face of her husband's political stance against gay marriage.

Jane Lynch was host of the Comedy Central Roast of Roseanne Barr over the weekend and couldn’t resist taking a jab at a fast food chain that doesn’t think marriages like hers to Dr. Lara Embry should be allowed to happen.

Before introducing the evening’s honoree, The Emmy-winning Glee star took not of the female roasters on hand including Carrie Fisher, Katey Sagal and Ellen Barkin and cracked: 'This show is serving up more old spoiled hens than a Chick-Fil-A.'

Then she added a real zinger.

'Oh, that reminds me… Fuck Chick-fil-A.'

Jesse Tyler Ferguson and Eric Stonestreet have joined castmates Ty Burrell, Julie Bowen and Sofia Vergara on Tuesday (24 July) in suing to void their contracts on the Emmy winning show.

Chaz Bono is a single man for the first time in his life and it's taking some getting used to.

'I'm not the most outgoing fella,' he told CNN's Piers Morgan in an interview Thursday (7 June). 'I'm not one of those guys who can just walk up and start chatting up a girl that I find attractive.'

Bono split from fiance Jennifer Ella last December. They had been together since 1999, initially as a lesbian couple. Elia has described herself as a bisexual.

Steve Levitan says Cam and Mitch have been embraced around the world

While gay marriage has been a hot topic in the GOP presidential primaries, Modern Family creator Steve Levitan told TV critics Tuesday (10 January) that there has been very little pushback about his show's gay couple.

'To the far-right, watch the show and I kind of dare you to not love Cam and Mitch,' Levitan said. 'I'm pleasantly surprised to the world's reaction to that part of our modern family.'
