Bret Easton Ellis is becoming almost as well known for his controversial Twitter rants as for being the author of such works as American Psycho and The Rules of Attraction.

One of those rants - about being 'disinvited' to the GLAAD Media Awards - has the media monitoring organization accusing Ellis of creating a 'publicity stunt.'

Adam Lambert vows to 'keep it real and to spread a message of acceptance'

'My goal is to try to represent both myself and my community proudly'

Grammy-nominated singer Adam Lambert was the star attraction at the GLAAD Media Awards in San Francisco over the weekend where Spice Girls member Mel B presented him with the Davidson/Valentini Award.

'We are right in the middle of two generations with two different perspectives but one common thread – love,' Lambert told the crowd at the Hilton Hotel in Union Square.

'With all the differences of opinion both within the LGBT community and elsewhere, the best we can do is to keep it real and to spread a message of acceptance.'

Former US President Bill Clinton praises LGBT leaders at GLAAD Media Awards in LA

'You have made this a better, a more interesting and a more well-prepared country for the future'

As the recipient of the Advocate for Change Award, Bill Clinton was the star attraction at the GLAAD Media Awards in Los Angeles on Saturday (20 April).

In a speech short by Clinton standards, the former US president gave much of the credit to his evolution on LGBT equality to his daughter, Chelsea Clinton who made a surprise appearance after his speech to present him the award.

He said his daughter 'had a profound impact on the way I see the world. Chelsea and her gay friends and her wonderful husband have modeled to me the way we all should treat each other.'

The Perks of Being a Wallflower  won best film and Raising Hope, American Horror Story and Days of Our Lives took home television prizes at the GLAAD Media Awards in Los Angeles Saturday (20 April)..

Wallflower writer-director Stephen Chbosky told the star-studded crowd, which included Leonardo DiCaprio, Charlize Theron, Jennifer Lawrence and Chris Evans, that he wanted to make a movie that would make kids who felt different feel less alone.

GLAAD to present former US President Bill Clinton with Advocate for Change Award

Clinton now calling for demise of DOMA which he signed into law in 1996

Former US President Bill Clinton will be presented with the Advocate for Change Award at the GLAAD Media Awards in Los Angeles later this month for his recent work on behalf of marriage equality.

The award, to be presented at a star-studded gala on 20 April, could be seen as controversial to some since it is Clinton who signed the Defense of Marriage Act into law in 1996. He has since called for the law to be struck down.

New York Post banned from GLAAD Media Awards red carpet over transgender coverage

Newspaper's use of such terms as  'trannies' and 'she-males' cited as reason

When Madonna, Anderson Cooper and others walk the red carpet at the GLAAD Media Awards on Saturday (16 March), the New York Post will not be among the news outlets chatting them up.

GLAAD (Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation) has refused to grant The Post press credentials to cover the New York City event. They cite the paper's 'history of anti-transgender coverage.'

Anderson Cooper 'incredibly excited' to be getting GLAAD Media Award from Madonna

'Madonna? Are you kidding me? I sort of don't believe it's true"

Anderson Cooper may be a major celebrity himself, but the daytime talk show host and CNN anchor can still get a bit starstruck.

On today's episode of Anderson Live! show, Cooper talked with guest co-host Lisa Rinna about receiving the Vito Russo Award later this month at the GLAAD Media Awards.

'I'm incredibly excited,' Cooper said. 'Madonna? Are you kidding me? I sort of don't believe it's true.'

Madonna will be presenting the award on 16 March at GLAAD's award ceremony in New York City.

Cher makes surprise appearance at GLAAD Awards in LA

Presents transgender son Chaz Bono with Stephen F. Kolzak Award

US Congresswoman Mary Bono Mack had already given a very moving tribute to stepson Chaz Bono at the GLAAD Media Awards in Los Angeles on Saturday (21 April).

She talked about how Chaz 'meant the world' to his dad, the late Sonny Bono, who she said was 'watching from heaven.'

'Chaz had the courage to follow his heart and his convictions and that's what true leaders do,' Bono Mack said.

Then, after a video presentation about Chaz, a woman wearing a dramatic afro wig  a wig came onto the stage unannounced.
