An anti-gay evangelist will face trial for ‘crimes against humanity’ on Monday (7 January).

American preacher Scott Lively, who supports the Uganda ‘Kill the Gays’ bill, is being sued by a minority group who say the evangelist has helped play a part in the persecution, arrest and murder of gay people.

Sexual Minorities Uganda is using a statute that allows foreign parties to sue in American courts, which will reportedly be used for the first time for crimes against gay people.

Leaders of some of the largest LGBT organizations in the US are demanding that the Republican leadership of the House of Representatives stop spending money to defend the Defense of Marriage Act in court.

The letter, addressed to House Speaker John Boehner, Majority Leader Eric Cantor, and Majority Whip Kevin McCarthy, states that 'Americans have sent a clear message that they want lawmakers to focus on strengthening our economy, creating jobs, and securing a bright future for generations to come.'

Uganda's homophobic laws and policies are a 'blot' on the African country's reputation, claims South African minister.

Santosh Vinita Kalyan sparked a heated debate in the Pan African Parliament yesterday (10 October) after challenging Uganda's continued persecution of gay people.

The Democratic Alliance party whip made the comments during discussion of a motion celebrating the country's 50-year history as an independent nation, reported the Daily Nation.

A bill to legalize same-sex marriage had its second reading in the Australian House of Representatives on Monday.

However little light was shed on the bill’s prospects, with only five MPs speaking, and no date for a vote or further debate set.

Labor’s Sharon Grierson was the first to speak in support of the bill, proposed by her Labor colleague Stephen Jones.

A political scandal has been rocking Ghana in the last two weeks with allegations circulating in the local media that the newly sworn vice president, Paa Kwesi Amissah-Arthur, is gay.

The Ghananian press has been widely publishing the alleged affairs with anti-gay opinion op-eds designed to whip up a moral panic about homosexuality.

But Amissah-Arthur himself denies the unsubstantiated rumors, accusing a former school-mate of starting them.
