On 20 July 2007, we were graced with Hairspray the movie.
It was based on the 2002 Broadway musical of the same name, which in turn was based on John Waters’ 1988 comedy also of the same name.
The 2007 movie featured the likes of John Travolta, Michelle Pfeiffer, Christopher Walken, Amanda Bynes, James Marsden, Queen Latifah, Brittany Snow, Zac Efron and Allison Janney.
There was even a Hairspray Live! by NBC in 2016.
This version had a star-studded cast including Ariana Grande, Jennifer Hudson, Kristin Chenoweth, Martin Short, Derek Hough, Dove Cameron and Rosie O’Donnell.
With each remake, they enjoy a reference to their predecessors.
Here’s a list of our favorite moments and references alike.
A vast majority of the population had a thing for Link. You wouldn’t be judged if you watched the 2007 movie just for him.
In the live 2016 version, Tracy’s entrance began with her in bed. This was a reference to how the original 2002 Broadway version also opened.
Is there anyone who doesn’t relate to this moment from Hairspray Live!..
Next we have an iconic scene of Queen Latifah dropping a truth bomb in 2007’s Hairspray movie.
Seems like Link has a bit of a crush. It’s nice to see the guy (Zac Efron) pining after the girl for once in a movie, instead of the other way around.
Hairspray Live! brought back the original Dynamites, which everyone was delighted to see.
We all know that dreaded feeling when a hot guy catches you doing something completely ridiculous.
Queen Latifah is all of us in this scene.
Women need to be supporting each other, not bashing each other. Here’s a scene from Hairspray Live! that showcases exactly how not to talk to other women.
The moral of the story is, you are beautiful just the way you are.
