100 one-star reviews later, bar takes down ‘no poofter drinks’ menu

The 'homophobic' sign has been up for seven years.

A bar in Melbourne has apologized for a ‘hilarious’ anti-gay menu after receiving a slew of one-star reviews on Facebook.

A board reading ‘No soy, no skinny, no tea… no poofter drinks’ had been up at Handsome Steve’s House of Refreshment for seven years.

So when a group of 20 customers complained about the sign on Friday (23 October) night, owner Steve Miller refused to take it down, reported The Herald Sun.

However, nearly 100 one-star Facebook reviews forced Miller to change his tune.

‘Please return to the 1950s, where your ignorant attitude and pathetic insecure “humour” belongs. What woeful crap,’ wrote one commenter.

‘It is absolutely disgusting of this bar to use a homophobic slur on its drinks list. Totally pathetic losers. Absolutely will not be going back here ever,’ said another.

Miller has since taken down the offending words and offered the following apology:

I unconditionally apologise for any offence I have caused. If anyone would like to talk to me about it, please come down to the house of refreshment. I’m here Friday – Sunday. All welcome.
