Mighty Hoopla returned to London for its third year and it was gayer than ever.
The pop festival took over Brockwell Park on Saturday 8 June for another day-long spectacular, featuring performances from iconic pop stars and drag queens alike.
All Saints, Jamelia, Bananarama, and Chaka Khan played across six different stages. However, the festival is run by the people behind Sink the Pink, and they delivered the top-tier drag acts the brand has become known for.
You could find these bands on smaller stages, which were still heaving with people. It’s a testament to how much the capital loves drag when they’d abandoned bangers like Kate Nash’s Foundations for queens in the field.
It’s not surprising when you look at the line up. The Cocoa Butter Club celebrated the best in Britain’s black drag scene. Meanwhile, The Glory brought local London talent.
Yet it’s not just about the acts. Of course, it’s the people that make any festival worthwhile. The crowd was on point all day. A sea of colors spread across thousands of people. Everyone friendly, everyone willing to have a good time, from Bongo’s Bingo to Liberty X.

It’s not every day you can put thousands of Londoners in one place and expect them to be happy. In fact, it was pretty nice to see Londoners actually happy in general.
That’s the power of great music, fabulous vibes, and the LGBTI community. It’s impossible not to get swept away when those three pillars unite.
