A man in India became convinced he had gotten pregnant from gay sex

Doctors in India have reported an unusual psychiatric case where a man came to believe he was pregnant after having gay sex.

The unnamed man from Kozhikode in Kerala state was married with children but began telling his family members he had become pregnant and could feel a baby moving inside him.

After he kept insisting this was true his family took him to a psychiatrist.

During counseling the man confessed that he was secretly in a homosexual relationship with another man and that he believed he was carrying the other man’s child inside him.

A team of doctors from Kunhitharuvai Memorial Charitable Trust Medical College headed by Dr PN Suresh examined the man and concluded he was suffering from delusions.

‘We never came across this sort of case before,’ Dr Suresh told SakshiPost.com.

‘He was an active homosexual in his adolescent years which may contributed to his beliefs. But, his homosexuality did not affect his marriage.’

‘Usually, we see “couvade syndrome” in some dads-to-be who show certain symptoms of pregnancy – like nausea, weight gain or sleep problems – when their partners get pregnant.’

‘The patient went for counseling and took risperidone. This delusion was cured due to the medical intervention … Now, the patient is recovering and we are measuring his progress during periodic check-ups.’
