Over the weekend, singer Aaron Carter revealed he’s attracted to both guys and girls. Now, it’s confirmed Carter and his girlfriend Madison Parker split last week prior to the public letter.
The couple initially met on Instagram when Parker reached out to Carter about photographing him. They began dating last year.
One of Carter’s reps confirmed the split to People. ‘Aaron and Madison love each other and respect one another dearly,’ the rep said in a statement. ‘It was a mutual decision and Aaron’s personal statement released speaks for itself. Now back to the music.’
Last month, Carter spoke to Entertainment Tonight he wanted to propose to Parker after he was arrested on DUI and marijuana charges. ‘I wanna be married. I wanna be engaged to my beautiful girlfriend, Madison,’ he said. ‘I wanna be a good father, a good role model, a strong role model.’
Carter, who is 29, shared in his letter that he was 13 when he began finding both guys and girls attractive.
‘There were years that went by that I thought about,’ he wrote. ‘But it wasn’t until I was 17 years old, after a few relationships with girls, I had an experience with a male that I had an attraction to who I also worked with and grew up with.’
He added that he feels no shame and ended his letter with a Boy George quote: ‘I’ve never felt as though I didn’t belong. I just acted as though I did.’
