Adam Lambert and Sam Smith have bonded over how hard it is to be gay in the media

Adam Lambert has said he has had a bonding session with Sam Smith over how hard it is to be gay in the public eye.

The pop star and current Queen frontman has spoken out several times on how he feels about being asked about his sexuality all of the time in interviews.

But now he has a friend in the pop sphere, thanks to the rise of Sam.

‘We’ve commiserated on how it is to be gay in the media,’ Adam told Billboard.

‘But a lot has changed. People are not as hung up on it. I’d like to think that the media doesn’t sensationalize it as much, but sometimes I’m proven wrong.’

Adam also paid tribute to the coming out of Caitlyn Jenner, another LGBTI person that has been thrust into the public eye.

‘The power Caitlyn has is that she can show and teach ¬≠everybody what transitioning is from start to finish, and challenge people’s perceptions,’ he said.

‘It’s important to have that ripple effect into the mainstream so people can begin wrapping their heads around it and become more comfortable. Any movement in that direction is positive.’

Adam Lambert’s new album The Original High is available on 16 June.
