Adam Rippon emerged from the PyeongChang Winter Olympics as everyone’s sweethearts. But none more so than Reese Witherspoon.
The two developed a friendship on Twitter after Witherspoon said Rippon was the #1 reason to watch the Olympics. He then pitched her a hilarious movie idea.
After he won his medal in the team event, Witherspoon said Rippon makes her ‘so proud’.
Well, after weeks of bonding on social media, they finally met in person. Stephen Colbert made it all possible in an episode of The Late Show.
The pair was instantly adorable as they embraced and giddily held hands.
‘This is the relationship the world has been waiting for,’ Witherspoon as they sit down. And, well, she’s not wrong.
‘Can I share something with you guys?’ Rippon asks.
Colbert replies: ‘I hope you will.’
‘I needed this today,’ Rippon says. ‘Because before I came out here, my life was in shambles.’ Witherspoon gasps and looks at Rippon with every ounce of motherly concern.
So why was his life in shambles? Because he lost a button on his shirt, as he so graciously shows the audience. The interview only gets better from there.
An important moment in American history
Both Rippon and Witherspoon posted about the moment to Instagram.
Rippon called it ‘an important moment in American history’.
‘The world being changed forever when I finally met my soul mate, @reesewitherspoon.’
Just look at those happy faces!
Meanwhile, the actress enthused: ‘Some nights are like a magical moment of destiny!’
‘Meeting Olympic medalist and all-around-best-in-class-super-star @Adaripp🏅made my night.’
