And the top 100 pro-gay employers in the UK are…

All three of the armed forces are in the top 100 employers for gay, bisexual and lesbian people in 2015, a new report says released today (14 January).

Stonewall, the UK’s LGB charity, has published its list showcasing Britain’s best pro-gay places to work.

Nottinghamshire Healthcare NHS Trust is this year’s top gay friendly employer, followed in second place by Tower Hamlets Homes and Lloyds Banking Group in third.

The accolade has been previously been won by Gentoo in 2014, Accenture in 2013 and Ernst & Young in 2012. These three companies do not appear on the list as they have been named ‘star performers’, organizations that consistently demonstrate ‘exemplary practice’ in supporting gay staff. Other companies in this list include Barclays, Goldman Sachs, the Home Office, IBM and Simmons & Simmons.

Britain’s secret service MI5 is in seventh place, the army at 46, the navy at 56, with the Royal Air Force behind at 91. 15 years ago, the ban on LGB people serving in the military was lifted.

Ruth Hunt, Stonewall chief executive, said: ‘Nottinghamshire Healthcare NHS Trust and every employer featured in the 2015 Top 100 have performed remarkably.

‘Not only was this the most competitive year to date, we’re delighted to see that in just 15 years our armed forces are making real progress in supporting and developing their lesbian, gay and bisexual staff.’

Ruth Hawkins, chief executive of Nottinghamshire Healthcare NHS Trust, said: ‘I am absolutely delighted to lead Stonewall’s Employer of the Year for 2015.

‘The Trust has an outstanding reputation for its proactive approach to all strands of equality and diversity.

‘Having appeared in the Top 100 list for a number of years it is especially rewarding to see that our continued efforts to tackle discrimination and create an inclusive workplace have been recognized.’
