CNN anchor Anderson Cooper may be rich and famous but he’s still a hard-working journalist who was on the job on his 47th birthday this week.
After doing a broadcast from Boston, he did the five-hour drive back to New York City and decided to duck into a McDonald’s for a late-night birthday meal.
He ordered a Big Mac meal and ‘I super-sized it because it was my birthday,’ the CNN anchor told David Letterman Wednesday (4 June).
Then things got a little sad.
‘I was there at the counter all by myself and the woman could not be any less interested in serving me. I said to her, "It’s my birthday" and she looked at me like I was the loneliest, most pathetic person on the planet.’
Cooper quickly wondered why he’d bothered to say anything at all. ‘It sounds a little desperate doesn’t it? What did I expect? For her to give me a free Happy Meal?’
