Cruise specialists Aquafest are to host ‘one of the first’ LGBTI group programs in Cuba in January 2016.

According to a message on the organization’s Facebook page, on the cruise ‘you will step back in time to the late 1950s yet experience a vibrant, safe, and LGBT friendly environment,’ adding that the itinerary has been ‘approved by the US government.’

In December 2014, it was revealed that restrictions on Americans travelling to the island country would be eased.

The cruise, in association with Cuba Cruise, will take place for one week from January 1-8, setting sail from Montego Bay, Jamaica aboard the Cuba Cruise‘s Louis Cristal. There is also an option to board in Havana, Cuba.

The cruise is priced from $659, reflecting a 20% early bird saving.

Homosexuality has been legal in Cuba since 1979, but LGBTIs still face many legal there. Always throughly research your destination before you travel.
