The movie has received criticism and mixed reactions since it was first announced, primarily because of the two main characters’ ages.
Hammer plays a 24-year-old academic, while his co-lead Timothée Chalamet plays a 17-year-old.
Author Chad Felix Greene tweeted about this with the simple command ‘stop’.
24 year old man.
17 year old boy.

Hammer saw this response and couldn’t hold back. He replied to Woods’ homophobic sentiments with a perfect drag of his own.
What was the drag, you ask?
Didn't you date a 19 year old when you were 60…….?

People lived for Hammer’s response.

Actor Amber Tamblyn chimed in with her own story of Woods trying to pick up her and a friend once when they were 16.
James Woods tried to pick me and my friend up at a restaurant once. He wanted to take us to Vegas. "I'm 16" I said. "Even better" he said.

At least Armie Hammer put Woods in his place. And now I’m even more on board for Call Me By Your Name.
