Atlantic City appoints drag queen as tourism ambassador

Atlantic City has revealed its new LGBTI tourism ambassador – the fabulous Miss Richfield 1981.

The scantily-clad star will represent the popular destination as she travels America and beyond with her riotous act.

Miss Richfield 1981 – the alter ego of Russ King – has appeared on shows including The Tonight Show With Jay Leno and Today, and commonly takes her show on various gay and lesbian cruises and to various vacation hotspots.

Miss Richfield 1981’s appointment follows the inauguration of the city’s first openly gay mayor, Don Guardian, in 2013.

Atlantic City Alliance executive director Jeff Guaracino commented: ‘As Atlantic City continues to diversify its appeal with non-gaming attractions and new events that draw new visitors here, we look for personalities who can help spark potential visitors’ interest in coming.’

He continued: ‘Miss Richfield has an active database of travelers, a strong social media presence and performs in front of LGBT and straight travelers all year —especially in our key markets. This is part of a strategy to enhance the image of the destination, to reclaim our position as a top LGBT-friendly destination and to diversify our visitor base.’
