A 23-year-old gay man arrived at Kentish Drovers pub on Peckham High Street in London holding hands with his boyfriend. As they were ordering drinks, another man suddenly rushed forward and smashed a pint glass into the man’s face.

Authorities sentenced Anjungi Lam, 35, to two years in jail for the 5 March attack.

CCTV footage helped police quickly identify him. Furthermore, he previously worked at the pub for three months before being let go due to lateness.

The video is below and it does have disturbing content.

The victim suffered cuts to his nose, lip, and neck. He also endured a chipped tooth and damage to his cornea. Shards from the pint glass also struck the victim’s boyfriend.

‘This was an entirely unprovoked incident,’ said Investigating officer PC Lance Sharrock, from Southwark’s Community Safety Unit.

‘Lam did not know the victim or his partner, they had not spoken nor had any disagreement to provoke such a violent attack.’

The victim believes the attacked stemmed from homophobia given he and his boyfriend walked in holding hands.

Sharrock continued: ‘Lam was quickly identified and I am pleased at his sentence which shows that incidents of this nature will not be tolerated.’

Police arrested Lam on 23 May. He admitted causing grievous bodily harm with intent in court on 23 June. The sentencing came down last Friday (17 November).
