Australian MPs just voted overwhelmingly in favor of same-sex marriage today (7 December).
Only five people voted against the bill, as the rest of the chamber erupted into a huge cheer of joy.
But a prominent anti-marriage equality campaigner, who is also the managing director of the Australian Christian Lobby Lyle Shelton, was not one of them.
He tweeted: ‘Sad to hear the cheers & claps from the gallery acknowledging that they support the erosion of religious liberty & freedom of speech.’
Australians had enough of his negative campaigning so they had a very important message for him:
That’s right, people began tweeting for Shelton to eat shit, according to Junkee.
After years of being one of the most vocal campaigners against equal marriage, people were over it.
In fact, #EatShitLyle was trending on Twitter.
