Austria’s Conchita Wurst through to Eurovision finals

Austria’s Conchita Wurst is through to the finals of the Eurovision Song Contest.

The drag queen was the final name announced, thousands of people in the Copenhagen stadium shouting her name.

Earlier in the evening today (8 May), Wurst performed the song Rise Like A Phoenix.

Her inclusion in the show received a backlash from some conservative countries, with several petitions calling for her removal.

Russian politician Vitaly Milonov said Wurst performing proved Eurovision was a ‘Sodom show’.

However, Wurst has insisted she has ‘very thick skin’ and will continue to do her best in the competition.

‘I can only say “Thank you for your attention!”. she told the Associated Press.

‘If this is only about me and my person, I can live with it. I’m just a singer in a fabulous dress, with great hair and a beard.’

Along with Austria, the countries through to the final are Switzerland, Slovenia, Poland, Romania, Norway, Greece, Malta, Belarus and Finland,.

They join the prequalified ‘Big Five’ countries, host Denmark, as well as the countries that got through in the first semi-final.

If you are in the UK and still want to go to the final in Copenhagen, Denmark, there is still a chance! All you need to do is show up tomorrow night (9 May) at Heaven club in London with your passport, and you could be in the front row at the Eurovision Song Contest. Find out more here.
